Φλεγόμενος ο Παναθηναϊκός κατατρόπωσε τη Φενερμπαχτσέ με 91-73 με όπλο του τα πολύ υψηλά ποσοστά στα σουτ και την ενέργεια και μαχητικότητα ποτ έβγαλαν όλοι οι παίκτες.

Οι πράσινοι μπήκαν δυνατά από το 1ο ημίχρονο έχοντας 5/7 τρίποντα στο 1ο δεκάλεπτο και έναν για ακόμα μια φορά εκπληκτικό Μπατίστα που είχε 5/6 δίποντα και 4 ριμπάουντ. ο Ιβάνοβιτς τελείωσε το δεκάλπετο με την ίδια 5αδα. Ενώ έχασε κάποια αμυντικά ριμπάουντ η μοναδική ευστοχία του στα τρίποντα δεν άφησε τη Φενέρ να απειλήσει. Θα το ξαναγράψουμε και ας γινόμαστε κουραστικοί, πόσο ωραία κινείται ο Μπατίστα χωρίς τη μπάλα.

Ο Σλότερ συνεχίζει στο 2ο δεκάλεπτο να δίνει λύσεις με αλλεπάλληλα τρίποντα κλείνοντας το ημίχρονο με 5/7 και ο Παναθηναϊκός συνολικά με 10/12, δηλαδή οι υπόλοιποι πλην Σλότερ δεν έχασαν τρίποντο. Ευκαιρία για τον coach να ξεκουράσει τον Μπατίστα και να δοκιμάσει περισσότερο τον Ράιτ που θέλει ακόμα δουλειά αλλά φαίνεται πως μπορεί να ανταποκριθεί στο μέλλον όταν δέσει με την ομάδα. Ο Μποχωρίδης δείχνει λίγος ακόμα, φαίνεται η απειρία σε κάποιες φάσεις. Εμφατικό σκορ 59-36 στο ημίχρονο.

Ο ίδιος φρενήρης ρυθμός συνεχίστηκε και στο 3ο δεκάλεπτο για τον Παναθηναϊκό με τους παίκτες του να σκοράρουν κατά βούληση από τα 6,75 και να ανοίγουν ακόμα περισσότερο τη διαφορά, ουσιαστικά καθαρίζοντας το ματς. Η Φενέρ σε καμία περίπτωση δεν το παράτησε και συνέχισε να πληγώνει κυρίως μέσα από τη ρακέτα τους πράσινους.

Στο 4ο επήλθε μικρή κόπωση-χαλάρωση για τους πράσινους, η Φενέρ δεν κατάφερε να το μαζέψει και έτσι δόθηκε η ευκαιρία στον Ιβάνοβιτς να δοκιμάσει και του μικρότερους σε ηλικία παίκτες. 

Τελικό σκορ 91-73 με 7/10 τρίποντα από Σλότερ, 4/4 ο Φώτσης και 3/3 του Μπλουμς, σε σύνολο 18/26 (69,2%) ποσοστό εξωπραγματικό, που ίσως θα πρέπει και να ανησυχήσει τον Ιβάνοβιτς σε μελλοντικά ματς.

Diamantidis makes history as Panathinaikos beats Fenerbahce 

In a historic night in competition history, Panathinaikos Athens tied a club record with 18 three-pointers made to defeat Fenerbahce Ulker Istanbul 91-73 in Group C. Both teams are now tied in Group C, each with a 2-1 record. Dimitris Diamantidis became the first player to reach 1,000 career assists in the Euroleague. He finished the game with 10 assists, which is 1 short of his career best. A.J. Slaughter added 23 points on 7-of-10 three-point shooting. Esteban Batista scored 14, while Antonis Fotsis netted 13 of 4 for 4 from downtown for Panathinaikos. Nemanja Bjelica scored 16 for Fenerbahce. Jan Vesely added 13 and Bogdan Bogdanovic had 10 for the guests. Diamantidis reached the 1,000-assist mark on the opening play of the game, feeding Slaughter for a three-point shot. Slaughter and an outstanding Batista gave Panathinaikos a double-digit margin, 31-19, after 10 minutes. A red-hot Slaughter soon led Panathinaikos to break the game open, 41-21. Panathinaikos hit 10 of 12 three-pointers before the break to boost its margin to 59-36 at halftime. Nothing changed in the second half, as Panathinaikos stayed hot from beyond the arc and kept a safe margin until the final buzzer. 

First quarter: Diamantidis reaches 1,000 career assists! 

The game started with a historic milestone, as Diamantidis fed Slaughter for a three-pointer that gave the playmaker his 1,000th career assist in the competition. Kenan Sipahi scored in transition and a layup by Vesely gave Fenerbahce its first lead, 3-4. Slaughter insisted from downtown. Sipahi sank a mid-range jumper, but back-to-back layups by Batista put Panathinaikos back ahead, 10-6. Semih Erden fed Vesely for a power layup, but Diamantidis made free throws and Vladimir Jankovic soon gave the Greens a 14-8 margin. Jankovic scored again before Andrew Goudelock banked in a running shot. A layup by Batista kept Panathinaikos way ahead, 18-10. A three-pointer by Fotsis saw Fenerbahce call timeout at 21-10. Emir Preldzic stepped up with a layup that Jankovic bettered with a triple. Batista hit free throws and another triple by Slaughter boosted the Greens' lead to 29-15. Luka Zoric and an unstoppable Batista traded layups. A jumper by Bjelica kept Fenerbahce within 31-19 after 10 minutes. 

Second quarter: Panathinaikos breaks the game open 

Slaughter buried his fourth bomb from downtown early in the quarter and fed Batista for a layup that broke the game open at 36-19. Fenerbahce could not get its many scorers involved and Slaughter downed a long jumper. Oguz Savas scored around the basket, but Slaughter insisted from beyond the arc to ignite the crowd at 41-21. Preldzic struck from downtown off a timeout, but Nikos Pappas scored in penetration and James Gist shined with a wild put-back slam for a 45-24 Panathinaikos margin. Bjelica and Goudelock tried to change things for Fenerbahce, but Blums nailed a triple off a screen and Gist added a layup for a 50-28 cushion. Pappas struck from downtown – Panathinaikos's 9th in 11 attempts. Bjelica kept the guests within 54-32. Vesely provided a highlight with a huge dunk and Bjelica added a layup, but Blums gave the Greens a 59-36 margin at halftime. 

Third quarter: a rain of three-pointers! 

Diamantdis nailed a three-pointer right after the break, as Fenerbahce struggled to get Goudelock and Bogdan Bogdanovic involved. Bjelica stepped up with a two-handed dunk that Slaughter improved on with his sixth triple, good for a 65-38 Panathinaikos lead. Goudelock shined with a one-handed floater off the baseline, but Fotsis answered from downtown - the hosts' 13th in 15 attempts! - and a layup by Jankovic forced Fenerbahce to call timeout at 70-40. Bogdanovic scored his first points, fed Bjelica for a dunk-and-foul and scored again as Panathinaikos stopped the game after a 0-7 run. Fotsis rescued the Greens with a triple and Gist soon gave his team a 75-48 margin. Vesely took over with a three-point play and matched Pappas's driving layup with a jump hook. Ricky Hickman and Bjelica made free throws, but a three-pointer by Blums and a put-back slam by Gist fixed the score at 82-57. 

Fourth quarter: Panathinaikos seals big home win 

Zoric scored around the basket early in the fourth quarter, as Panathinaikos kept using long possessions to run the game clock down. The Greens were held scoreless for more than two minutes until Diamantidis found Fotsis for a three-pointer - his 10th assist of the night. Bogdanovic answered from downtown and a fast break layup by Goudelock brought Fenerbahce a bit closer, 85-64. Slaughter nailed another one from beyond the arc and even though Fenerbahce kept trying, everything was said and done already. Some 14,500 fans had plenty of time to celebrate a big win, as Coach Obradovic had a bitter return to Athens, where he will always be a legend.

Άμυνα από ατσάλι...

Με άμυνα που δεν άφηνε περιθώρια στους Ισπανούς να μπουν μέσα στη ρακέτα του, ο Ολυμπιακός πήρε αμυντικά το 100% από τους παίκτες του και τελικά τη νίκη με 63-57. Αν και η Λαμποράλ ήταν συνεχώς κοντά στο σκορ, και μάλιστα προσπέρασε και λίγους πόντους στο 3ο-4ο δεκάλεπτο, δε σου έδινε την αίσθηση ότι μπορεί να απειλήσει και να χτυπήσει το ματς Έτσι και αυτός ο κακός επιθετικά Ολυμπιακός μπόρεσε και την κέρδισε.

Αυτός που ανέλαβε στα κρίσιμα να πάρει το βάρος των επιθέσεων ήταν ο Λοτζέσκι. Και δικαιώθηκε. Πολύ μεστό παιχνίδι, έβαλε τα σουτ (6/8 διπ. - 1/4 τριπ.), ενώ ήταν καθοριστικός και στην άμυνα (4 κλ. - 4 ρ.). 

Το μεγαλύτερο κέρδος όμως ήταν η "ανάσταση" του Ντάνστον που πήγε καλά τόσο αμυντικά όσο και επιθετικά (10 π. - 2 κοψ. - 6 ρ.), αλλά και ο Αγραβάνης που θωράκισε την άμυνα στη θέση 4 και έδωσε μερικές λύσεις και στην επίθεση. 

Αξιόπιστος και στη θέση 5 ο Χάντερ, από τον οποίο περιμένουμε περισσότερη εμπιστοσύνη στον εαυτό του και να πάρει και φάσεις με την πλάτη ώστε να γίνει πιο ορθολογικός και ο τρόπος ανάπτυξης της ομάδας. 

Παρών - απόν ο Πέτγουεϊ, περιμέναμε περισσότερα. Σε μέτρια επίπεδα κινήθηκε και ο Σπανούλης.

Ο Σλούκας με την είσοδό του στο 2 ημίχρονο έδωσε ωραίο ρυθμό στην ομάδα και κατάφερε η ομάδα να ανακτήσει τη διαφορά από το εις βάρος της -3. Ο Τόμιτς τον έβγαλε 7΄πριν τη λήξη και δεν τον ξαναχρησιμοποίησε.

Λύσεις έδωσε και ο Λαφαγιέτ, αν και θέλει ακόμα περίοδο προσαρμογής στον τρόπο λειτουργίας της ομάδας.

Στα "πικάντικα" του αγώνα, η αντίδραση του Τόμιτς στο time-out που πήρε όταν η Λαμποράλ ξέφυγε στο σκορ, όπου πέταξε αλλά "Ιωαννίδης" τον πίνακα τακτικής στο πάτωμα και τα έψαλε στους παίκτες του, αλλά και η λογομαχία του με τον Χάντερ, με χαρακτηριστική κίνηση του χεριού του να του δείχνει τα αποδυτήρια...

Olympiacos tops Laboral for second victory 

Olympiacos Piraeus picked up its second close victory this season, holding off Laboral Kutxa Vitoria 63-57 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium on Friday night. Olympiacos improved to 2-0 in a share of top spot in Group D, while Laboral dropped to 1-1. The Reds opened the game with a 17-7 lead, but Laboral rallied with two triples apiece from Fernando San Emeterio and Doron Perkins, cutting it to 35-31 at halftime. A 2-10 third quarter run, with Colton Iverson and San Emeterio in main roles, put the visitors up 40-43, but Kostas Sloukas ignited the Olympiacos offense, before Matt Lojeski and Brynat Dunston converted down the stretch, as the Reds prevailed. Lojeski finished with 15 points and 4 steals, while Dunston collected 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Othello Hunter and Vassilis Spanoulis scored 9 apiece in victory. San Emeterio paced the visitors with 15 points on 4-for-6 shooting from downtown, and Tornike Shengelia scored 11. Iverson and Davis Bertans contributed with 8 points each in defeat. 

A 12-0 run puts the Reds in control 

A driving layup from Shengelia and a tip-in from Bertans got Laboral going, but Lojeski scored a fastbreak layup and Hunter made a hook-shot to make it 5-4 after three minutes. Bertans nailed the first three-pointer of the game, but Lojeski answered with one from downtown, too. After a drive from Spanoulis, it was Vangelis Mantzaris who buried a long jumper for a 12-7 lead. Hunter had a big dunk just before being replaced by Dunston, who immediately contributed from short range for a 17-7 lead. Just before the end of the quarter, Fabien Causeur nailed a triple to snap a 12-0 run, making it 17-10 after 10 minutes. 

Perkins and San Emeterio rally Laboral from downtown 

Neither teams scored early in the quarter before Dunston made a put-back dunk. Kim Tillie scored inside to get Laboral within 19-12, but a baseline jumper from Lojeski, and a three-pointer from Oliver Lafayette extended the difference to 24-12. The visitors had an answer from long range. After Tillie made a pair of free throws, San Emeterio nailed a pair of threes, cutting the gap to 26-20 and forcing an Olympiacos timeout. Another triple, this time from Perkins, got Laboral within 3, as the visitors allowed only one field goal in more than six minutes. But free throws from Lafayette extended it to 30-23, before Perkins buried a triple in the final seconds of the half, making it 30-26 at halftime. 

Laboral takes lead, Reds finish strong behind Sloukas 

Iverson made free throws for the visitors, while Olympiacos was held scoreless for two and a half minutes until Mantzaris sank a triple. Iverson and Dunston traded baskets from close range to make it 35-30 before another scoring drought was ended by Causeur, who made a steal and raced for a fastbreak layup. Lojeski made a layup and hit a mid-range jumper, but Shengelia nailed a three-pointer, Iverson scored an acrobatic layup in traffic, and San Emeterio buried an off-balance triple to give Laboral a 40-41 lead. After free throws from Shengelia, Sloukas snapped a 2-10 run with a three-pointer for the Reds, and then assisted a Dimitrios Agravanis layup. On the other end, Shengelia made a strong move to the basket, but Sloukas dished a no-look pass to Hunter for a buzzer-beating dunk, leaving the scoreboard on 48-45. 

Lojeski and Dunston help the Reds prevail 

Αgravanis opened the scoring in the quarter with a layup after another no-look pass from Sloukas, but San Emeterio nailed a three-pointer and soon added a coast-to-coast layup to make it 52-50. Lojeski nailed a jumper, but Iverson muscled his way inside to keep it a one possession game. Hunter scored from close range, but Bertans answered with a shot from long range to get within 56-55. Lojeski knocked down another mid-range jumper and as the game was going down the wire, Olympiacos got important offensive boards from Dunston and Spanoulis, and a huge block from Petway. In the final minute, Dunston rose high above the rim for a put-back dunk and a 61-55 lead with 41 seconds left, to seal the deal.

Απουσίες και κόπωση στέρησαν τη νίκη

Ήττα για τον Παναθηναϊκό στο Μόναχο από την Μπάγερν. Οι πράσινοι διεκδίκησαν με αξιώσεις τη νίκη για τρία δεκάλεπτα, αλλά η κόπωση και οι απουσίες έγιναν εμφανείς στη τελευταία περίοδο και χάρη στα πολλά εύστοχα τρίποντα των Γερμανών, ο Παναθηναϊκός δεν μπόρεσε να μαζέψει τη διαφορά και ηττήθηκε με 81-75.

Πολύ καλός στο 1ο ημίχρονο ο Γιάνκοβιτς. Αρκέστηκε σε βεβιασμένες ενέργειες μετά. 

Ο Πάπας ήταν εκτός παιχνιδιού, δεν βρέθηκε σε καλή μερα. Θετικός ο Σλοτερ ως αντί-Παππάς, μπόρεσε και σκόραρε αρκετές φορές, χωρίς να κάνει συγκλονιστικό παιχνίδι. Ο Μπλουμς πέρα από τα σουτ δεν φαίνεται να μπορεί να προσφέρει κάτι παραπάνω.

Είδαμε εξαιρετικά πικ εν ρολ Διαμαντίδη - Μπατίστα (θυμίζουν καλές εποχές με Μπατίστ). Ο Ουρουγουανός ξέρει να κινηθεί πολύ καλά χωρίς τη μπάλα και έχει απίστευτη επαφή με το καλάθι. Ο Διαμαντίδης έμεινε άποντος με 0/8 FG μοιράζοντας όμως 7 ασίστ. 

"Κίλερ" ο Φώτσης με 4/5 τρίποντα και 5/6 FG που κράτησε όσο μπόρεσε κοντά στο σκορ τους πράσινους.

Από τον Παναθηναϊκό λείπει ο καλός Γκιστ, ειδικά στην άμυνα. Και απόντος Μαυροκεφαλίδη και ανετοιμότητας του Ράιτ η κόπωση βγαίνει στον Μπατίστα. Όσο άντεξε, για 30´ ήταν εξαιρετικός. Στο 4ο κούραστηκε και κρέμασε όλη η ομάδα.

Απαιτείται μεγάλη βελτίωση στην άμυνα. Ας περιμένουμε να δούμε την ομάδα με πλήρη σύνθεση για να κρίνουμε καλύτερα. Άφησαν πολλά εύκολα σουτ στους Γερμανούς, ενώ έβλεπαν ότι επέμεναν να σουτάρουν αρκετά και μαρκαρισμένα σουτ.

Bayern Munich, Savanovic outlast Panathinaikos 

Bayern Munich took charge in the fourth quarter as it outlasted Panathinaikos Athens 81-75 at Audi Dome in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Game of the Week on Thursday. Dusko Savanovic hit 5 three-pointers, including 2 in the final two minutes, to lift Bayern in a game that did not see either team lead by more than 6 at any point in the first three quarters. Trailing 57-59 through three quarters, Bayern used an 8-0 fourth quarter run to take the lead for good and Nihad Djedovic and Savanovic knocked down critical threes down the stretch to ice the win. Savanovic finished with 20 points on 5-of-7 three-point shooting, Djedovic followed with 14 points and Gavel Anton 13 scored for the winners, while big men off the bench Vladimir Stimac and Jan Jagla had 11 and 10, respectively. Panathinaikos got 18 points and 7 rebounds from Esteban Batista plus 17 points from Vlatimir Giankovits and 15 from Antonis Fotsis. 

First quarter: Bayern hold Greens without a basket for six minutes

Head coach Svetislav Pesic started the game for Bayern with Anton Gavel, Nihad Djedovic, Robin Benzing, Savanovic and John Bryant. Coach Dusko Ivanovic’s starting five was Dimitris Diamantidis, AJ Slaughter, Giankovits, Fotsis and Batista. Panathinaikos jumped out to a 0-6 lead thanks to three-pointers from Giankovits and Fotsis. Savanovic got Bayern on the board with a triple. That started a mini Bayern run as Gavel sandwiched a jumper and running lefty layup around a Bryant reverse layup for a 9-6 lead. Two Giankovits free throws after a Gavel unsportsmanlike foul snapped the Bayern surge, but Savanovic knocked down a jumper and hit a free throw to push the margin to 12-8. Panathinaikos clearly wanted to get Batista involved in the offense and the big man finally scored to make it 12-10, ending a 6:17 minute stretch without a basket for the guests. Giankovits knotted the game with a driving layup. After a Jagla free throw, the lead went back and forth three times, with Stimac scoring back-to-back baskets inside for a 17-14 Bayern lead. Gist tipped in a Diamantidis missed three just before the buzzer to make it 17-16 after 10 minutes. 

Second quarter: Batista dominates with 10 points 

Valilije Micic started the scoring for the hosts in the second quarter and a Jagla hook shot pushed the margin to 21-16. Eleftherios Bochoridis hit Panathinaikos’s first basket of the quarter before Savanovic made it 23-18. Janis Blums hit the Greens’ first three since the first minute and then Batista took over with two inside baskets for a 23-25 lead and a Bayern timeout. Savanovic nailed a three-pointer to stop the run and Giankovits gave Panathinaikos the lead back 26-27. Bayern came up with another mini run with 6 straight points with a Djedovic long jumper, 2 Gavel free throws and a Micic basket in the lane for a 32-27 cushion. Munich however went scoreless in the final 1:56 minutes of the first half and Batista scored 6 straight points before a Slaughter layup gave Panathinaikos a 32-35 lead at the break. 

Third quarter: A back-and-forth battle ensues 

Bayern struck first in the second half with a Bryant jumper. Batista came back the other way with a big dunk. After Djedovic made 2 of 3 free throws, Savanovic and Djedovic both nailed long balls as the hosts went ahead 42-39. Giankovits knocked down a long jumper and Fotsis followed with a three. Slaughter’s jumper gave Panathinaikos a 42-46 advantage. Jagla answered with a triple, but Slaughter punched right back with a three-pointer of his own to make it 45-49. Munich called a timeout and after Gavel and Blums swapped threes, Fotsis completed a three-point play to increase the Panathinaikos cushion to 50-55. Bayern then held Panathinaikos scoreless for the next 2:17 and Stimac scored 6 points and Jagla split free throws for a 57-55 Bayern lead. Giankovits ended the scoring drought with 2 free throws and then scored on a break-away dunk as the guests held a 57-59 edge going into the final 10 minutes. 

Fourth quarter: Bayern puts game away with three-point shooting 

Heiko Schaffartzik started the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to put Bayern back ahead, but Batista answered inside for a 60-61 lead. Bayern worked hard on defense and kept Panathinaikos off the scoreboard for 4:36 minutes. Gavel scored 3 points and Djedovic dropped a jumper in an 8-0 run for a 68-61 Munich lead. Giankovits snapped the scoreless streak with a layup after a steal to trim it to 68-63 and Fotsis’s three-pointer got Panathinaikos to within 70-66. But Djedovic and Savanovic nailed three-pointers to open a 76-68 lead with less than two minutes to play. Batista trimmed it to 76-70 with free throws and Panathinaikos had a couple of three-point chances to trim it to a one-possession game, but couldn’t hit. Savanovic then put in the dagger with a triple with 46 seconds left for a 79-70 lead. Bryant’s inside basket with 20 seconds to play sealed the victory for good.

Παναθηναϊκός - Τουρόφ 84-77

Θετικό ξεκίνημα με νίκη για τον Παναθηναϊκό στην πρεμιέρα της φετινής διοργάνωσης απέναντι στην πρωτάρα και χαμηλής δυναμικότητας Πολωνική Τουρόφ, η οποία έχει ως "ηγέτη" της τον γνωστό και μη εξαιρετέο Μάρντυ Κόλινς που έκανε την περισσότερη ζημιά στους Πράσινους με 23 π. και 9 ρ.

Ο Παναθηναϊκός δείχνει φρέσκια ομάδα με ενέργεια στο παιχνίδι του και ο Ιβάνοβιτς έχει δώσει άλλο αέρα στους νεαρότερους παίκτες της ομάδας, καθώς δείχνει να τους στηρίζει και να τους εμπιστεύεται. Το πιο σημαντικό σε σχέση με πέρυσι, είναι ότι βρήκε ένα 5αρι (Μπατίστα) που ξέρει να τελειώνει τις φάσεις και παράλληλα κάνει πιο ορθολογικό το παιχνίδι της ομάδας. 

Σίγουρα το αμυντικό πλάνο που υπήρχε τα τελευταία έχει εγκαταλειφθεί και η ομάδα έχει αποκτήσει περισσότερο επιθετική φιλοσοφία. Θα πρέπει να δουλέψει περισσότερο σε αυτό το κομμάτι γιατί η συνέχει έχει πιο δύσκολες ομάδες από τους Πολωνούς.

Panathinaikos holds on at home against Turow 

Panathinaikos Athens opened its Turkish Airlines Euroleague season with a hard-fought 84-77 victory at home over debutant PGE Turow Zgorzelec in Group C. AJ Slaughter and Nikos Pappas both led the way for the six-time Euroleague champion Panathinaikos with 16 points while Vlantimir Giankovits scored 13 points, Janis Blums had 11 and Esteban Batista added 10 points and 7 rebounds. Dimitris Diamantidis played just 15 minutes with 2 points and 4 assists as he moved into a three-way tie for the most games played in Euroleague history with his 226th career appearance, evening him with Sergi Vidal and Sarunas Jasikevicius. Free throw shooting played a big role in the game as Panathinaikos made 19-of-21 (90 percent) compared to just 14-of-27 (51 percent) for the guests. Turow, which cut a 14-point deficit to 2 points in the fourth quarter, was paced by Mardy Collins with 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists while Damian Kulig had 17 points and both Michal Chylinski and Ivan Zigeranovic added 10.

Group effort lets Greens lead 

Panathinaikos coach Dusko Ivanovic started Diamantidis, Slaughter, Giankovits, James Gist and Batista. PGE Turow coach Miodrag Rajkovic sent the starting group of Tony Taylor, Lukasz Wisniewski, Collins, Vlad Moldoveanu and Zigeranovic. Batista opened the scoring for the six-time Euroleague champions with a layup with Zigeranovic getting a hook down for the Polish team’s first-ever score in the competition. Zigeranovic also gave Turow its first lead at 2-4. Baskets by Collins and Zigeranovic kept the guests up 6-8 before Giankovits made two free throws and converted a three-point play to lead an 8-0 Panathinaikos run to pull ahead 14-8. Chylinski came off the Turow bench for a jumper to stop the surge and Kulig made it 14-12. Eleftherios Bochoridis got up to dunk in a missed jumper to push the lead to 16-12 before Zigeranovic dunked after some nice passing to cut it back to two points. But Gist threw down a put-back dunk after a Slaughter missed layup just before the buzzer as Panathinaikos was leading 18-14 after one quarter.

Blums boosts Panathinaikos 

Julian Wright opened the second quarter with a put-back basket for Panathinaikos and then Nikos Pappas coming off the bench for two free throws and a driving layup to increase the home side’s advantage to 24-16. The Zgorzelec bench brought the team back into the game as Chylinski nailed a long jumper and a three-pointer and Damian Kulig drained a three-ball to finish a 2-10 run to knot the game at 26-26, forcing a Panathinaikos timeout. Gist and Janis Blums both two free throws and Collins cut it to 30-29. But Panathinaikos came up with a six-point possession – all of them by Blums, who was fouled and took and made a third free throw because of a technical foul on Collins. On the ensuing possession, Blums knocked down a three-pointer to open the biggest lead of the game at 36-29. Collins scored four straight points as Turow pulled back to within 36-34 but Giankovits hit for the hosts, who also saw Pappas go coast to coast for a layup and a 40-34 cushion. A Giankovits layup left Panathinaikos ahead 42-35 at halftime.

Collins keeps Turow close 

Panathinaikos got off to a good start in the third quarter with Slaughter hitting a basket and a three-ball to increase the lead to 47-35. Chylinski finally got Turow on the board with a three-pointer of his own before Giankovits made it 52-38. Batista kept the guests at an arm’s length with three straight baskets as the Greeks led 60-46. But Collins and Kulig continued their strong play and cut the gap to 60-50, and the Greens’ coach Ivanovic had seen enough and called a timeout. A Zigeranovic free throw trimmed the gap to 60-51 before Slaughter nailed a big three to push the margin back to 12 points. The guests would not go away as Nemanja Jaramaz made three free throws and Collins hit a fast break layup but missed the and-one free throw to make it 63-56. Blums again gave Panathinaikos a big three-pointer to re-establish a 10-point lead only to see Collins drain a triple from the right wing to shave the deficit to 66-59. Slaughter however beat the third quarter buzzer with a jumper off the glass and in for a 68-59 lead after 30 minutes.

Greens fight off Turow rally to win 

Taylor started the fourth quarter with a three with Antonis Fotsis answering right back with a three-ball. But Taylor drained another long ball to get Turow to within 71-65. Giankovits hit a driving layup but missed the extra free throw. The debutants would not go away as Kulig and Moldoveanu both scored and then Moldoveanu fed Kulig as Turow trailed just 73-71. Pappas responded with a big three-pointer and then Gist threw down a power alley-oop dunk off a pass from Diamantidis for a 78-72 Panathinaikos advantage. And two Diamantidis free throws made it 80-72. Just like the whole game, Turow did not give up as Collins put back his own miss and then nailed a three-pointer to cut the margin to 80-77 with 29 seconds left. But free throws continued to be a decisive factor as Pappas and Gist both made two free throws in the final 25 seconds and Collins missed his two foul attempts with 21 seconds left and the team down 82-77.

Χωρίς ψηλούς...

Διπλό στη Βαλένθια και ξεκίνημα με το δεξί για τον Ολυμπιακό στη φετινή Ευρωλίγκα. Οι ερυθρόλευκοι όντως μέτριοι σε απόδοση, με όπλο την ενεργητική (αλλά οχι πάντα αποτελεσματική) άμυνά τους πήραν στα τελευταία δευτερόλεπτα το ματς με 68-71 κυρίως χάρη στα λάθη των άπειρων σε μεγάλα ματς των Ισπανών. 

Λόγω των απουσιών των Πρίντεζη, Ντάρντεν και Παπαπέτρου, του εκτός φόρμας Ντάνστον και του άπειρου Αγραβάνη, ο Ολυμπιακός ουσιαστικά έπαιξε με ένα 5αρι τον Χάντερ (και αυτός με το ζόρι έβγαλε το ματς λόγω κόπωσης) και ένα 4αρι τον Πέτγουεϊ που αμυντικά ήταν απίθανος απόψε. 

Όλα αυτά ανάγκασαν τον Τόμιτς να παίξει σχεδόν όλο το 4ο δεκάλεπτο με 4αρι τον Λοτζέσκι. Οι Ισπανοί δεν έδειξαν να μπορούν να εκμεταλλευτούν το αβαντάζ αυτό και σπάνια έβαλαν την μπάλα στη ρακέτα. Βοήθησαν σε αυτό και οι πολύ καλές οι αλληλοκαλύψεις στην άμυνα των ερυθρολεύκων. 

Στην άμυνα ο Τόμιτς επέλεξε αλλαγές σε όλα τα σκριν με προσαρμογές και γρήγορες περιστροφές. Στην αρχή αυτό φάνηκε να στοιχίζει στο ριμπάουντ. Τελικά άντεξε. 

Θετικός επιθετικά ο Χάντερ. Θέλει σίγουρα βελτίωση. 

Καθαρά ανέτοιμος ο Ντάνστον. Φάνηκε και στο ματς του κυπέλου με τον Παναθηναϊκό. Ειναι πολύ μακριά από τη φόρμα που τον αφήσαμε στο τέλος τη περσινής σεζόν.

Κυρία επιθετικά όπλα της ομάδας ο πολύ καλός Λοτζέσκι και ο killer Σπανούλης, που στο 1ο ημίχρονο ότι έφευγε από το χέρι του έμπαινε μέσα.

Η απουσία ψηλών είχε ως συνέπεια να πάει σε πολλά μακρινά σουτ. Λίγες επιθέσεις εκδηλώθηκαν από μέσα και αυτές χωρίς ιδιαίτερη επιτυχία.

Εξαιρετικός αμυντικά ο Πέτγουεϊ με ρεσιτάλ άμυνας. Έχει σώσει τουλάχιστον 5-6 επιθέσεις.

Κακές επιθέσεις στο 4ο δεκάλεπτο, κόλλησε επιθετικά και βρήκε λύσεις τελικά από Λοτζέσκι και Σπανούλη. Η ομάδα θέλει χρόνο στις επιθετικές συνεργασίες. Χαρακτηριστικά, πολύ δύσκολα έβγαλε πικ εν ρολ. Δεν μπορώ να θυμηθώ άλλο πικ εν ρολ να έβγαλε παρά μόνο τα άστοχα καρφώματα του Χάντερ στο 4ο δεκαλεπτο.

Στα πλην, το μικρό rotation. Έπαιξαν ουσιαστικά 8 παίκτες και σκόραραν μόλις οι 6. 

Γιατί δεν πρέπει να ανησυχούν ούτε οι μεν, ούτε οι δε...

Και οι φίλοι των δύο ομάδων μας στην Ευρωλίγκα δε θα πρέπει να ανησυχούν αγωνιστικά μετά το ματς κυπέλλου που έγινε το βράδυ της Πέμπτης. 

Ξεκινάμε από τον ηττημένο. Ο Ολυμπιακός έπαιξε κατά διαστήματα πολύ καλό μπάσκετ με αρκετούς ωραίους συνδυασμούς. Φυσικά λόγω κόπωσης και μη σωστών αλλαγών από τον coach, ίσως έριξε το ρυθμό προς το τέλος. Η ομάδα έχει έναν καλό κορμό από πέρυσι που τον ενίσχυσε με περισσότερο ποιοτικές προσθήκες (Λαφαγιέτ αντί Κόλινς, Χάντερ αντί Σερμαντίνι). Ο Σπανούλης δείχνει αρκετά φρέσκος και προσπαθεί και στην άμυνα. Ο Ντάνστον δεν συνέχισε τις καλές περσινές εμφανίσεις και φαίνεται ότι του λείπουν παιχνίδια. Ένα ακόμα μείον για τον Μπαρτζώκα, που ενώ είχε η ομάδα του είχε αποκτήσει ισχυρό προβάδισμα 10+ πόντων, άφησε αρκετή ώρα εκτός το Σπανούλη, που ήταν αρκετά ζεστός στο 3ο δεκάλεπτο και πειραματίστηκε πολύ στο 4ο με Λαφαγιέτ και Χάντερ. 

Ο Ολυμπιακός ουσιαστικά έχασε δικό του παιχνίδι σε 100 δευτερόλεπτα και αυτό γιατί έκανε πολλά λάθη μαζεμένα στην άμυνα. Ας προσπαθήσουμε να αναλύσουμε τις 2 τελευταίες άμυνες του Ολυμπιακού. 

1η λάθος άμυνα, με χαμένο ριμπάουντ και τρίποντο του Διαμαντίδη:

Ο Διαμαντίδης έχει τη μπάλα, βλέπει Πρίντεζη και Μάντζαρη πάνω του και διαβάζοντας σωστά την άμυνα, πασάρει στο Σλότερ που έρχεται από δεξιά ξεχασμένος από τον αμυντικό του. Στο μεταξύ ο Ντάνστον παίζει λάθος άμυνα πάνω στον Μπατίστα μαρκάροντάς τον από πίσω. Ίσως περίμενε να κάνει heads-out σε ενδεχόμενο σκριν του Μπατίστα στο Διαμντίδη, αλλά και πάλι είναι λάθος τοποθετημένος αμυντικά.

Λάθος προσέγγιση στο αμυντικό ριμπάουντ:

Ο Σλότερ σουτάρει σχεδόν ανενόχλητος. Ο Μπατίστα σωστά έχει κόψει στο καλάθι και είναι μόνος του για να διεκδικήσει το ριμπάουντ (ίσως ο Σλότερ θα έπρεπε πιο σωστά να του περάσει την πάσα). Ο Ντάνστον έχει αφήσει προ πολλού τον παίκτη του. Εξ αρχής μόνο ο Σπανούλης είναι σε σωστή τοποθέτηση πάνω στον παίκτη του. Μετά το σουτ, κανείς αμυντικός δεν κάνει μπλοκ άουτ στον παίκτη για να διεκδικήσει το ριμπάουντ, αλλά τρέχουν όλοι προς τη ρακέτα να διεκδικήσουν με άλμα.

Αποτέλεσμα, παίρνει το ριμπάουντ ο Γιάνκοβιτς και 4 παίκτες του Παναθηναϊκού είναι απλωμένοι - αμαρκάριστοι για τρίποντο.

2η λάθος άμυνα, μετά την επαναφορά από την εύστοχη βολή του Σλούκα:

Ο Σπανούλης αναλαμβάνει το Διαμαντίδη. Ο Μπατίστα κάνει σκριν στον play-maker του ΠΑΟ και ο Ντάνστον χωρίς λόγο κάνει αλλαγή στο σκριν και πάει να μαρκάρει τον Διαμαντίδη, ενώ βλέπει ότι ο Σπανούλης σπάει το σκριν και συνεχίζει να κυνηγάει τον παίκτη του (Διαμαντίδη). Έτσι ο Μπατίστα και πάλι μένει μόνος του και κόβει ωραία κάθετα προς τη ρακέτα. Ο Διαμαντίδης διαβάζει τη φάση και πάλι και μοιράζει την ασίστ του αγώνα στον σέντερ της ομάδας. Η συνέχεια είναι γνωστή.

Ο Σπανούλης και πάλι σωστά σκεπτόμενος και με καθαρό μυαλό, γνωρίζοντας πως η ομάδα του είχε ακόμα ένα φάουλ να δώσει, προσπάθησε να τραβήξει το χέρι του Διαμαντίδη, αλλά οριακά δεν πρόλαβε να κάνει το φάουλ. Κι αφού δεν έγινε αυτό, Σλούκας και Ντάνστον δεν μπόρεσαν να κάνουν φάουλ στον Μπατίστα που κάρφωσε τη μπάλα.

Από την άλλη ο Παναθηναϊκός, δεν έπαιξε πολύ ποιοτικό επιθετικά μπάσκετ, καθώς βασίστηκε κυρίως στις ατομικές ενέργειες του Παπά και στα πολλά τρίποντα στο 2ο ημίχρονο, με τα οποία και γύρισε το παιχνίδι. Η ομάδα φαίνεται οτι είναι καινούρια και πρέπει να δουλευτεί περισσότερο για να βγαίνουν καλύτερα οι αυτοματισμοί. Έπαιξαν καλές άμυνες απόντος και του Γκιστ που είναι βαρόμετρο για τον Παναθηναϊκό. 

Η χρονιά τώρα ξεκινά και οι δύο ομάδες μπορούν σαφέστατα να βελτιωθούν παραπάνω. Η Ευρωλίγκα ξεκινά από βδομάδα και η πρώτη φάση ενδείκνυται ως περίοδος φορμαρίσματος.
