Δεν άντεξε στην πίεση, αλλά υπόσχεται καλό Top-16

Εμφάνιση με υποσχέσεις πραγματοποίησε ο Παναθηναϊκός στην Τουρκία με αντίπαλο τη Φενέρ για την 1η αγωνιστική του Top-16. Δεν άντεξαν την πίεση της έδρας οι πράσινοι, δεν κατάφεραν να κάνουν την υπέρβαση και ηττήθηκαν τελικά με 82-75 από το πληρέστερο και ποιοτικότερο ρόστερ της Φενέρ του Ομπράντοβιτς.

Στοίχισαν για τον Παναθηναϊκό το νωθρό 1ο δεκάλεπτο, η απουσία στο 2ο ημίχρονο του Διαμαντίδη, η μέτρια βραδιά του Γκιστ (αν και σκόραρε 14 π.), η "ανυπαρξία" σκορ από το Φελντέιν και οι κακές επιλογές του κουρασμένου στο β' μέρος Πάβλοβιτς.

Παρόλα αυτά ο Παναθηναϊκός κυνήγησε όσο πήγαινε το ματς και μέχρι και το τελευταίο λεπτό ήταν στο παιχνίδι της νίκης. Στα θετικά κρατάμε τη μαχητικότητα των πράσινων, που αν δείξουν την ίδια διάθεση και στα υπόλοιπα ματς θα έχουν ελπίδες για πρόκριση. 

Με εντολή Ομπράντοβιτς η Φενέρ παίζει πολύ πιεστική άμυνα, στα όρια του φάουλ, προσπαθώντας να καταστρέψει επιθετικά το παιχνίδι του Παναθηναϊκού, κάτι που αρχικά το κατάφερε. Δεν μπορεί να αναπτυχθεί επιθετικά ο Παναθηναϊκός και εσπευσμένα ο Τζόρτζεβιτς ρίχνει στο ματς Ραντούλιτσα και ο Διαμαντίδη. Το σερί 14-0 της Φενέρ σπάει με τρίποντο ο Γκιστ για το 14-3. 

Ανεβάζει την ομάδα επιθετικά ο Ραντούλιτσα με 4 σερί καλάθια. Οι πράσινοι έβαλαν την μπάλα στη ρακέτα και έκαναν πιο ορθολογικό τον τρόπο παιχνιδιού τους. Σε συνδυασμό με το ότι χαλάρωσε και λίγο η άμυνα της Φενέρ, που δεν είναι φύση αμυντική ομάδα και με το τρίποντο buzzer beater του Γιάνκοβιτς, ο Παναθηναϊκός κλείνει το δεκάλεπτο πίσω στο σκορ με 28-18.

Εφόσον η Φενέρ σταμάτησε την πιεστική  άμυνα οι πράσινοι βρήκαν ευκολότερα το δρόμο για το καλάθι. Στημ άμυνα όμως και στα πικ εν ρολ ο Παναθηναϊκός αντιμετωπίζει πρόβλημα και αδυνατεί να κλείσει τον Βέσελι.

Ο Φελντέιν έχει κάνει κακό ξεκίνημα και δε βοηθά στο σκοράρισμα την ομάδα. Αντίθετα βελτιωμένος και μαχητικός ο Γιάνκοβιτς (που έχει ακούσει πολλά ), είναι σε καλή μέρα σκοράρει με άνεση, πηδάει στα επιθετικά, έχει όρεξη και θετικότατη παρουσία. Ο Γκιστ έχει κλειστεί καλά από τους Τούρκους.

Όσο χάνει που και που τα σουτ η Φενέρ, βρίσκει ψυχολογία υπέρ του ο Παναθηναϊκός και μαζεύει τη διαφορά σε ένα πολύ καλό 2ο δεκάλεπτο. Σκορ ημιχρόνου, 46-43.

Ατυχείς συγκυρίες για τους πράσινους το τρίτο φάουλ του Καλάθη με την έναρξη της 3ης περιόδου και ο τραυματισμός Διαμαντίδη που λόγω έλλειψης άλλου PG, ο Τζόρτζεβιτς βάζει ανέτοιμο τον Παππά ως Playmaker. Ο Έλληνας γκαρντ όμως έδειξε την κλάση του και έβαλε 2 γρήγορα καλάθια ισοφαρίζοντας για το 56-56, αλλά λόγω έλλειψης αγώνων δεν είχε διάρκεια σε ένα τέτοιο απαιτητικό αγώνα.

Δεν κάνει καλές επιθέσεις ο Παναθηναϊκός. Κουράστηκε ο Πάβλοβιτς, δεν έγινε αλλαγή και έκανε κακές επιλογές. Δεν εμπιστεύτηκε το Ραντούλιτσα σε αυτό το σημείο ο Τζόρτζεβιτς. Δεν βάζει την μπάλα στη ρακέτα και  αστοχεί συνεχώς από τα 6,75. 

Για αυτό μπαίνει και ο Γκιστ. Όμως δεν είναι σε μέρα και κάνει λάθη. Έχει κλειστεί καλά από τους Τούρκους και δεν μπορεί να προσφέρει όσα πρέπει. Απόλυτο μηδέν και από Φελντέιν. Η κούραση επέρχεται και αυτό φέρνει και και κυκλοφορία της μπάλας για τους πράσινους. Η Φενέρ αντίθετα είναι εύστοχη στα κρίσιμα σημεία με Αντιτς και Ντίξον και παίρνει μια διάφορα 10 πόντων. Τελικά με τρίποντο του Γκιστ ο Παναθηναϊκός γράφει το τελικό 82-75.

Τα έχουμε ξαναγράψει αλλά τα επισημαίνουμε για ακόμα μια φορά, γιατί βγαίνουν όλα αυτά στον αγωνιστικό χώρο... 

Σίγουρα ο Πάβλοβιτς είναι πιο έμπειρος από Γιάνκοβιτς και Χαραλαμπόπουλο. Αλλά έπρεπε από την αρχή της χρονιάς να παίζει ο Χαραλαμπό και να παίρνει χρόνο συμμετοχής ώστε να είναι έτοιμος για το Top-16. Τώρα λογικό είναι να μην τον εμπιστεύεται σε τέτοια κρίσιμα ματς.

Αν και θα ανέβει σιγά σιγά ο Παππάς, ο Παναθηναϊκός θέλει ξεκάθαρα έναν ακόμα PG. Αυτό φα΄νηκε ακόμα πιο έντονα σήμερα με την απουσία του Διαμαντίδη. Αλλά το Top-16 είναι απαιτητικό και σίγουρα ένα έξτρα εργαλείο στον πάγκο του Τζόρτζεβιτς θα ήταν σίγουρα πολύτιμο. Άλλωστε είναι σημεία στο ματς που θα μπορούσε να παίξει και με 3 γκαρντ για να πιέσει στην άμυνα ή να αντεπεξέλθει καλύτερα στην πίεση των αντιπάλων. Ο Καλάθης στα γκαρντ είναι απελπιστικά μόνος. Εκεί το έχασε σήμερα ο Παναθηναϊκός...

Fenerbahce starts strong and hold on to beat Panathinaikos

Fenerbahce Istanbul trailed for only 17 seconds the entire night, but had to fight hard to hold off Panathinaikos Athens 82-75 in the Top 16 opener for both teams in Group E on Wednesday night. The hosts took control and a double-digit lead early by starting the game with a 14-0 run, but Miroslav Raduljica got the Greens going and a Vladimir Jankovic triple cut the deficit to 46-43 at halftime. The visitors melted the deficit more, and briefly went in front late in the third quarter, 56-58. But the hosts finished the third quarter with 6 straight points, then big men Ekpe Udoh inside and Pero Antic from downtown hit big shots down the stretch to restore a double-digit margin and lift Fenerbahce to victory and keep it perfect on its home floor this season. Udoh finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 blocks in victory. Luigi Datome netted 15 points, while Antic, Jan Vesely and Bogdan Bogdanovic each contributed 12 in victory. Raduljica and James Gist each scored 14 for Panathinaikos. Sasha Pavlovic scored 10, while Nick Calathes added 9 points in defeat.

First quarter: Great start for the hosts

Fenerbahce stormed out of the gate. Datome opened the scoring with a baseline jumper, and after Bobby Dixon fed Udoh for a layup, Datome hit another baseline jumper and added a pair of free throws to make it 8-0. Udoh served up a pair of blocked shots on the defensive end as Panathinaikos was held scoreless for more than four minutes to open the game. Udoh's short jumper and free throws from Bogdanovic and Pero Antic made it 14-0 before James Gist hit from downtown to open the Greens' account. But Dixon replied with a three of his own as Fenerbahce outhustled the visitors on the offensive boards as well. But Raduljica got Panathinaikos going by scoring a pair of baskets in traffic. Bogdanovic drove for a layup, but Raduljica answered with a monster dunk and then followed it up with a mid-range jumper to cut within 19-11. Udoh and Gist traded baskets inside, before Datome and Bogdanovic hit back-to-back from long range for the hosts to lead 27-13. However, Dimitris Diamantidis hit a runner and Jankovic knocked down a tough corner triple at the buzzer to make it 28-18 at the end of first quarter.

Second quarter: Greens rally back before halftime

Diamantidis opened the second quarter with a triple, and after an alley-oop dunk from Vesely, a triple from Antonis Fotsis cut the difference to 31-24. After Zeljko Obradovic called a timeout, Pavlovic scored a reverse layup that got the visitors within 6. Antic hit a three-pointer for Fenerbahce, but Raduljica scored inside and Pavlovic finished a fastbreak with a dunk to make it 35-30. Pavlovic added a driving layup for the Greens, but Vesely’s two-handed monster dunk over Gist extended the lead to 39-32. The Greens cut the deficit some more when Nick Calathes scored a three-point play. After Vesely’s free throws and a floater, Calathes made a runner and Jankovic had a tip-in that helped Panathinaikos close within 43-40. In the final minute, Bogdanovic and Jankovic traded three-pointers, making it 46-43 at halftime.

Third quarter: Panathinaikos takes a brief lead

Fenerbahce started the third quarter similar to the way it started the game. Datome hit a triple, and after 2 of 3 from the foul line from Dixon, Udoh drove to the hoop to make it 53-44. Gist hit a triple for the visitors, and Fotsis also nailed one from downtown for Panathinaikos to get within 54-52. Udoh made a jumper, but Nikos Pappas hit a floater and a runner on consecutive possessions to tie the game at 56-56 with three minutes to go in the qurter. After a Fenerbahce timeout, Pavlovic made a pair of foul shots that gave the visitors their first lead of the night, 56-58. However, the hosts finished the quarter with 6 unanswered points, as Udoh scored from close range and Bogdanovic made a nifty driving layup to give Fenerbahce a 62-58 advantage.

Fourth quarter: Antic’s triples help Fenerbahce hold on

Calathes hit a wild one-handed triple to beat the shot-clock, but Datome made a baseline jumper for the hosts. After free throws from Gist and Pavlovic cut it to 66-64, Udoh scored inside and Dixon made a steal and raced for a layup and a 6-point edge. Following a Panathinaikos timeout, Raduljica made a pair of foul shots, but Antic buried a corner three, extending the margin to . Panathinaikos kept getting to the foul line, and after a big dunk from Vesely, an equally big dunk from Gist made it 75-72. But Dixon nailed a jumper and Udoh scored a layup, before Antic sealed the deal with a triple, making it 82-72 with 1:08 to go. Gist gave the Greens hope with a three-pointer that snapped a 7-0 run, but Datome grabbed an offensive rebound on the next trip down the floor to secure victory for the hosts.

Οι μάγοι με τα δώρα έφεραν: αυτοσυγκέντρωση, πάθος, ομαδικότητα...

Με μεγάλη και εμφατική νίκη έκανε ντεμπούτο στο Top-16 ο Ολυμπιακός κερδίζοντας την Μπαρτσελόνα με 74-62. Σε πολύ καλή βραδιά οι Σπανούλης, Στρόμπερι, Χάντερ. Όλοι οι παίκτες συνέφεραν τα μέγιστα όσο βρίσκονταν στο παρκέ και η ομάδα έδειξε μεγάλη συγκέντρωση, πάθος και ομαδικότητα, σαν να έπαιζε σε αγώνα playoff  ή και final four. 

Καλοστημένες και οι δύο ομάδες με προπονητές εξαιρετικούς "σκακιστές", ξεκινάει το ματς στο Σ.Ε.Φ. Ο Πασκουάλ παίζει μα δυναμικό hedge-out πάνω στα πικ εν ρολ του Σαπνούλη και τον κλείνει πολύ καλά. Αυτό αναγκάζει τον Ολυμπιακό να κυκλοφορεί τη μπάλα στην περιφέρεια και να βρίσκει πολλά ελεύθερα σουτ, εκτελώντας πιο πολύ από τα 6,75 μ. παρά από τη ρακέτα. Ο Πρίντεζης δεν έχει πάρει αρχικά καθόλου επιθέσεις. Βασικός ο Μιλουτίνοφ πάνω στο μαρκάρισμα του Τόμιτς.

"Όλη η ιστορία του σύγχρονου ευρωπαϊκού μπάσκετ σε μια εικόνα"

 Οι διαιτητές δίνουν πολύ εύκολα τις επαφές και αυτό δίνει πλεονέκτημα στην Μπαρτσελόνα που είναι πιο σοφτ ομάδα από τον Ολυμπιακό. Σκορ 1ου δεκαλέπτου 14-14 με κύριο χαρακτηριστικό τις σφικτές άμυνες και το παιχνίδι αναγνώρισης.

Τα 2 σχετικά γρήγορα φάουλ του Τόμιτς φέρνουν τον Σάμουελς στην 5αδα της Μπάρτσα. Ο Σφαιρόπουλος βάζει εσπευσμένα τον Χάντερ που είναι στα κυβικά του Σάμουελς. Οι ερυθρόλευκοι με πολλή τακτική στο ματς, δίνουν φάουλ στον Τζαμαϊκανό σέντερ που είναι πολύ άστοχος στις βολές. Τα 2 φάουλ του Μιλουτίνοφ ρίχνουν νωρίς στο παρκέ και τον Τζέιμς. Πολύ βελτιωμένος επιθετικά ο Αμερικανός, γεμίζει τη ρακέτα των Καταλανών με 6 ποντάκια. Αμυντικά όμως έχει προβλήματα απέναντι στον Τόμιτς που στο 12' επέστρεψε στο ματς, καθώς ο Σάμουελς δεν μπήκε στο κλίμα του αγώνα.

Πολύ μαχητικός ο Ολυμπιακός, προφανώς απαλλαγμένος από το άγχος του 1ου δεκαλέπτου, βελτιώνεται επιθετικά, αλλά κρατάει την ίδια καλή άμυνα. Το πάθος με το οποίο αγωνίζονται οι ερυθρόλευκοι τους δίνει πολλά επιθετικά ριμπάουντ και δεύτερες και τρίτες επιθέσεις. Έτσι καταφέρνει να ανοίξει τη διαφορά έχοντας και έναν Σπανούλη που θυμίζει Νίκο Γκάλη. Το τρελό buzzer - beater τρίποντο του Χάκετ στο τέλος του ημιχρόνου είναι το επιστέγασμα της καλής εμφάνισης του 2ου δεκαλέπτου για το 39-26.

Με δύο γρήγορα φάουλ του Μιλουτίνοφ πάνω στον Τόμιτς ξεκίνησε το 3ο δεκάλεπτο που άλλαξε τις ισορροπίες στο ματς. Επάξιος αντικαταστάτης του όμως ο Χάντερ που παίρνει τις πάσες και τελειώνει τις φάσεις. Οι Καταλανοί δείχνουν πλέον τη διάθεση να τρέξουν και όποτε δεν μπορούν, παίζουν με ποστάρισμα του Τόμιτς και εναλλακτικά χτυπάνε με τον Σατοράνσκι που πηγαίνει σε drive τα πιο αργά πόδια του Σπανούλη. Μη όντας όμως ιδιαίτερα εύστοχη, ο Ολυμπιακός όχι διατηρεί, αλλά και αυξάνει τη διαφορά στους +16. Σκορ περιόδου 56-40.

Θετική η παρουσία στο ματς και του Στρόμπερι, που είδαμε να χρησιμοποιεί ακόμα μια κίνηση από το ρεπερτόριό του. Ενώ κάνει πως πάει για drive (συνήθης κίνησή του), κάνει step back και σουτάρει από μέση απόσταση. Το έκανε 2 φορές σε αυτό το διάστημα και ήταν εύστοχος.

Πολλή άστοχη για 5' η Μπάρτσα στο 4ο δεκάλεπτο. Όταν "αποφάσισε" ότι δεν το γυρίζει και αποφορτίστηκε επιθετικά από το βάρος αυτό, άρχισε να πετυχαίνει πιο εύκολα καλάθια και πλησίασε μέχρι και τους 10 (68-58) 1:30 πριν τη λήξη. Τα καθοριστικά όμως τρίποντα των Αγραβάνη (για το 71-58) και Μάντζαρη (για το 74-59) κλείδωσαν τη νίκη για τους ερυθρόλευκους. Τελικό σκορ 74-62 με πολύ καλή εμφάνιση και νίκη στην πρεμιέρα του Top-16.

Spanoulis sparks Olympiacos to big win over Barcelona

Olympiacos Piraeus started the Top 16 in style by beating FC Barcelona Lassa 74-62 at Peace & Friendship Stadium in their Top 16 opener. Vassilis Spanoulis starred with 11 points and 9 assists to lead the Reds, who finished the first half on a 16-2 tear to lead 39-26 and added a 10-0 third-quarter run to take care of business. The hosts also outrebounded Barcelona 41-30. Othello Hunter added 10 points for the hosts, who featured nine players with at least 6 points. Ante Tomic led Barcelona with 17 points, Tomas Satoransky added 12 and Pau Ribas totaled 8 points and 8 assists in defeat.

First quarter: Papapetrou shines early for Reds

Tomic got the visitors on the scoreboard before Ioannis Papapetrou buried a three for the Reds. Juston Doellman made a tough basket for Barcelona. Tomic took a seat after just three minutes with 2 fouls. A run of turnovers on both ends slowed the game. Satoransky split free throws before Stratos Perperoglou nailed a triple for a 3-8 Barcelona advantage midway through the quarter. Papapetrou’s offensive rebound and free throws got the hosts going. Juan Carlos Navarro drew a foul and added a free throw, but Barcelona had no answer for Papapetrou, who sank 3 free throws over two possession – both thanks to Spanoulis assists – to bring the Reds within 8-9. Georgios Printezis became the hosts’ first scorer not named Papapetrou when he scored over Doellman. A Pau Ribas triple and Samardo Samuels layup put Barcelona up 10-14. Daniel Hackett scored on the baseline and Ioannis Athenaiou added free throws to tie the game at 14-14 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Spanoulis helps hosts surge ahead

Samuels split free throws to push Barcelona back ahead. Shawn James scored with a tip-in and on the break with Dimitrios Agravanis rejecting Samuels in between. James’s baby hook made it 20-15. Tomic’s basket inside and Brad Oleson’s jumper closed the gap to 1. Tomic showed his moves inside to put Barcelona back on top, but Spanoulis was about the take charge. The Olympiacos guard hit a deep three, though Aleksandar Vezenkov answered with a three off an inbounds play for Barcelona. Spanoulis brought the fans to their feet with a tough layup for a 25-24 lead midway through the quarter. Printezis added to the lead and D.J. Strawberry nailed a triple for a 6-point edge. Hunter scored inside before Shane Lawal found a cutting Satoransky for a slam. Spanoulis banked in a tough shot to keep the Reds rolling. His assist on a pick-and-roll to Hunter gave the hosts a double-digit lead. Hackett beat the buzzer with a three for a 39-26 halftime lead.

Third quarter: Olympiacos builds on promising lead

Tomic split free throws, but committed his third foul at the other end on Printezis’s three-point play. Satoransky darted to the hoop for a tough layup and Doellman added a jumper. Tomic displayed his skills in the post to complete a basket-plus-foul to bring the visitors within 42-34. Vangelis Mantzaris kept Olympiacos rolling with a three-pointer and Spanoulis hit a nifty layup. Agravanis came off the bench to sink a triple and a Hunter’s hook shot capped a 10-0 run that made it 52-34 and prompted a Barcelona timeout. Ribas tried to right the Barcelona ship with free throws and Oleson sank a three. Hunter took a pass from Strawberry to make a reverse layup and after Samuels split free throws, a Strawberry jumper made it 56-40 at the end of the quarter.

Fourth quarter: Strawberry and co. cruise to victory

Neither team scored during the first two minutes of the quarter, which played into the home side’s hands. Tomic scored first inside; it was the third quarter in which he scored the first points on the night. Nikola Milutinov responded inside for his first basket. Strawberry took charge with a drawn foul and free throw made on the break and then a jumper to extend the difference to 61-42. After a timeout, Ribas buried a three, Alex Abrines came up with a steal and Tomic scored inside to give Barcelona hope. But the Reds used a timeout and Hackett nailed a triple to practically ice the game with four minutes to go. Samuels added free throws and Spanoulis made a layup. Abrines got on the scoreboard with a three-pointer, but Spanoulis found Hunter for a layup. Tomic and Satoransky lowered the deficit to 12 with two minutes to go. Satoransky further brought Barcelona to 68-58, but threes by Agravanis and Mantzaris secured a comfortable victory.

"Καταναγκαστικά έργα" στο Σ.Ε.Φ.

Το νωθρό ξεκίνημα και το κακό 1ο δεκάλεπτο (10-21) πλήρωσε ο Ολυμπιακός που ηττήθηκε για πρώτη φορά φέτος στο ΣΕΦ. Σε ένα ματς που έμοιαζε πιο πολύ με καταναγκαστικό έργο παρά για χαρά του μπάσκετ για τους ερυθρόλευκους, η Αναντολού Εφές έδειξε να θέλει περισσότερο το ματς και το διεκδίκησε μέχρι τέλους. Αποτέλεσμα, τη διαφορά που πήρε από νωρίς 10+ πόντων, την διατήρησε ως το τέλος. 

Ο Ολυμπιακός κάποια στιγμή στο 3ο δεκάλεπτο που πλησίασε στους 8, πίστεψε πως μπορεί να χτυπήσει το ματς. Αλλά η έλλειψη συγκέντρωσης, τα αρκετά αβίαστα λάθη (επιθετικά φάουλ στον αιφνιδιασμό, χαμένες βολές, λάθος πάσες κλπ) δεν έδωσαν την ευκαιρία στους ερυθρόλευκους να επιστρέψουν στο παιχνίδι. 

Η Εφές ήταν εύστοχη, είχε ενέργεια στο παρκέ (ήταν στιγμές που ένιωθες ότι παίζει διαστημικά), είχε το δίδυμο Ερτέλ - Τάιους σε καλή βραδιά (έβγαλαν πολλές συνεργασίες) και δεν άφησε πολλά περιθώρια στον Ολυμπιακό να διεκδικήσει τη νίκη. Το τελικό 68-81 ήταν επακόλουθο.

Ο Ολυμπιακός δεν έπαιξε καλά. Οι παίκτες του (κυρίως οι Έλληνες) δεν έδειξαν μεγάλη διάθεση. Εξαίρεση αποτελούν οι Χάκετ, Στρόμπερι και Χάντερ που ήταν αυτοί που έβγαλαν την περισσότερη ενέργεια από τους ερυθρόλευκους και αγωνίστηκαν περισσότερο στο τέλος. 

Πολύ καλό παιχνίδι από τον Χάκετ (19 π. - 9 κερδισμένα φάουλ - 5 ρ.) που έπαιξε και στο 1 συμβάλλοντας οργανωτικά. 

Αρνητικός ο Μάντζαρης, ασταθής ο Παπαπέτρου (έπαιξε 33' γιατί προτιμήθηκε λόγω απουσίας του Αγραβάνη στο 4), άστοχος ο Πρίντεζης, το ίδιο και ο Αθηναίου, ανέτοιμος ο Τζέιμς. Ο Ίβκοβιτς διάβασε καλά το ματς και έστησε την ομάδα του σωστά, κλείνοντας τα ατού των ερυθρολεύκων. 

Να σταθούμε και λίγο στον Σον Τζέιμς. Είναι προφανές ότι είναι ανέτοιμος και δεν έχει εγκλιματιστεί στην ομάδα και στον τρόπο παιχνιδιού του Ολυμπιακού και θα κριθεί πιο δίκαια μέσα στο Top-16. Αλλά κάποια πράγματα φαίνονται από την αρχή. Ο τρόπος που τελειώνει τις φάσεις είναι κάπως ανορθόδοξος αλλά και εν γένει ο τρόπος παιχνιδιού του. Ο Γιανγκ για παράδειγμα από τα φιλικά το καλοκαίρι έδειχνε ότι μπορεί να πρωταγωνιστήσει και να έχει ρόλο βασικού μέσα στην ομάδα. Έπαιρνε την μπάλα και ένιωθες σιγουριά και φυσικά και ήταν βράχος στην άμυνα. Όσον αφορά τον Τζέιμς, ο Σφαιρόπουλος τον εμπιστεύτηκε στο ματς για να βρει τη χημεία του με τους υπόλοιπους, αλλά εκεί που πήγαινε να το μαζέψει ο Ολυμπιακός, ο Τζέιμς έκανε το λάθος και ο Σφαιρόπουλος τον απέσυρε.

Απαιτείται να γυρίσουν υγιείς οι τραυματίες και να φτιάξει ενα καλό σύνολο ο Ολυμπιακός, ώστε να ειναι ανταγωνιστικός στο Top -16. Ο όμιλος του Ολυμπιακού είναι αρκετά δύσκολος και απαιτητικός, με Ρεάλ, Μπαρτσελόνα, Λαμποράλ, ΤΣΣΚΑ, Μπάμπεργκ, Ζαλγκίρις και Χίμκι. Απαιτείται σοβαρότητα και ανασυγκρότηση δυνάμεων.

Anadolu Efes wins in Piraeus to claim second place in Group B

Anadolu Efes Istanbul secured second place in Group B by knocking off Olympiacos Piraeus 68-81 on the road. Dario Saric collected 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists while Thomas Heurtel had 13 points and 5 assists to lead Efes, which improved to 6-4 for the second spot in the group. Derrick Brown chipped in with 10 points while Alex Tyus had 9 points and 2 blocks in the victory. Olympiacos had already locked up first place in the group, but saw its seven-game winning streak snapped in falling to 8-2 despite 19 points from Daniel Hackett. Georgios Printezis and D.J. Strawberry both scored 10 points in the loss.

First quarter: Anadolu Efes pulls away late with 2-9 run

Olympiacos coach Giannis Sfairopoulos made no change to his starting line-up with Strawberry, Vangelis Mantzaris, Printezis, Ioannis Papapetrou and Nikola Milutinov. Anadolu Efes coach Dusan Ivkovic made three changes to his first five with Jayson Granger, Furkan Kurzmaz and Saric coming on for Heurtel, Birkan Batuk and Brown alongside Jon Diebler and Tyus. Granger scored the first points of the game on a lay-up with Strawberry evening it with two free throws. Saric and Kurkmaz both knocked down three-balls as the guests went up 2-8. Mantzaris nailed Olympiacos’ first basket - a three-pointer to make it 5-8. Two Saric baskets were sandwiched around a Papapetrou dunk after a pass from Othello Hunter. But Bryant Dunston scored two straight baskets inside against his former team as the lead grew to 8-16. Strawberry got a shot to go in off the glass to trim the gap to six points. But Dunston made one free throw, Brown scored a driving layup and Heurtel knocked down a jumper as Anadolu Efes was leading 10-21 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Efes bench scores 13 points

Batuk opened the second quarter with a three-pointer to extend the advantage to 14 points. Hackett scored five straight points for Olympiacos and Shawn James got a tip-in and Mantzaris nailed a three-pointer and one free throw to get the deficit down to 21-28. Brown threw down a nice lefty dunk after a pass from Heurtel but was answered at the other end with a dunk from Milutinov. After Granger got the margin back to double-digits with a three-pointer, Printezis raced out on the break for a lay-up to make it 25-33. Heurtel followed with a jumper and then Brown put back an offensive rebound and set up a big alley-oop drunk for Tyus as the advantage swelled to 25-39. Printezis and Hunter scored for Olympiacos to trim the gap to 29-39 and the score was 29-40 at intermission following Tyus’ free throw.

Third quarter: Olympiacos unable to make run

Hunter started the second half with a massive dunk to get the game into single digits. Kurkmaz followed with a three-pointer but Printezis answered right back with a long ball of his own to make it 34-43. Saric got a lefty hook to fall and Cedi Osman scored a lefty lay-up to push the lead to 35-47. Batuk and Osman added three-pointers as the bulge grew to 38-53 - and an Olympiacos time out. Two Heurtel free throws and a Tyus dunk kept Efes up 15 points until Hackett hit one free throw and Strawberry scored a lay-up to make it 45-57. Heurtel answered with a three-ball but Strawberry scored another layup and then tossed up an alley-oop pass for Hunter to get the gap to 49-60. Tyus put back a miss and Heurtel scored off the glass to push the lead to 51-64. But Ioannis Athinaiou threw up a three-pointer just before the third quarter buzzer to get the hosts within 54-64.

Fourth quarter: Reds never get closer than 8 points

Diebler started the fourth quarter by setting up a Tyus alley-oop and Hackett scored Olympiacos’ first points in the quarter. A Hackett three-point play trimmed the lead to single digits - 59-68. But Diebler nailed a corner jumper and then a three-pointer to increase the margin to 59-73. Olympiacos had one more push as Hackett converted another three-point play and Papapetrou nailed a three-pointer to cut it to 65-73 with four minutes to play. Olympiacos however failed to convert on its next three possessions and it was 65-77 after a Saric put back and two Saric free throws with three minutes left. Two Printezis free throws and one from Hackett trimmed it to 68-77 inside the 2-minute mark. But Mantzaris, Papapetrou and Hackett missed their next shots and the hosts had to settle for the loss.

Μεγάλο ντέρμπι εξελίχθηκε στο Κάουνας ανάμεσα στον Παναθηναϊκό και τη Ζαλγκίρις. Οι πράσινοι τελικά κατάφεραν να επικρατήσουν των Λιθουανών με 75-72 σε ένα φινάλε με ωραίες μπασκετικά εναλλαγές συναισθημάτων. 

Ο Παναθηναϊκός στάθηκε τυχερός αφού δεν του στοίχισαν τα λάθη στα οποία υπέπεσε στο τέλος του αγώνα. Λάθος του Φελντέιν που χάνει την κατοχή στα 56"' πριν τη λήξη στο 71-72. Στη συνέχεια,  ο Πότσιους αστοχεί για τρεις, ο Παναθηναϊκός χάνει το αμυντικό ριμπάουντ, αλλά φανταστική άμυνα του Γκιστ δε δίνει σκορ για τους Λιθουανούς. Πάνε σε φάουλ σκοπιμότητας οι Λιθουανοί (με εντολή assistant Ζάρας) και ο Φελντέιν ευστοχεί 2/2 βολές, "διορθώνοντας" το προηγούμενο λάθος του.

Με το σκορ στο 72-75 και με 13" να απομένουν, ο Τζόρτζεβιτς ζητάει φάουλ για να μην πάνε οι Λιθουανοί σε προσπάθεια τριών πόντων. Όπερ και εγένετο, ο Λεκαβίτσιους που κέρδισε το φάουλ βάζει την πρώτη (72-74) αλλά χάνει τη δεύτερη και ακόμα ένα λάθος για τους Πράσινους που χάνουν το ριμπάουντ (και πάλι), αλλά ο MVP - δαιμόνιος Καλάθης βάζει σωστά το χέρι του και κλέβει την μπάλα, δίνοντας κατοχή για τον Παναθηναϊκό. Φάουλ στο Διαμαντίδη, χάνει την πρώτη βολή, ευστοχεί στη δεύτερη (72-75) και εκεί στην τελευταία κατοχή της Ζαλκίρις γίνεται το πιο μεγάλο λάθος στην άμυνα του Παναθηναϊκού.

Φελντέιν και Φώτσης δε συνεννοούνται σωστά στα μαρκαρίσματα και ο Μότουμ βγαίνει εντελώς αμαρκάριστος από τη γωνία και εκτελεί για τρεις, με προοπτική να στείλει το ματς στην παράταση. Ευτυχώς για τους πράσινους δεν ευστοχεί ο Αυστραλός και ο Παναθηναϊκός παίρνει σημαντική νίκη στο Κάουνας. Το τελικό 72-75 ήρθε δίκαια χάρη στη μεγάλη εμφάνιση του 4ου δεκαλέπτου.

Μαέστρος και εκτελεστής για ακόμα μια φορά ο Καλάθης με μεστή εμφάνιση. Φελντέιν και Πάβλοβιτς (10 ρ.) οι παίκτες που συμπλήρωσαν την 3άδα των παικτών με διψήφιο αριθμό πόντων. Πολύ καλός αμυντικά ο Γκιστ. Δεν άνοιξε πολύ το rotation ο Τζόρτζεβιτς.

Με σκορ 6-4 ο Παναθηναϊκός προκρίνεται ως 3ος στον Όμιλο Ε' στο Top-16. Οι αντίπαλοι του (για την ώρα) διαμορφώνονται ως εξής:

Panathinaikos edges Zalgiris, finishes third in Group C

Panathinaikos Athens finished third in Group C by downing Zalgiris Kaunas 71-74 in the Lithuanian capital on Thursday. Panathinaikos was third with a 6-4 record, while Zalgiris was fourth at 5-5. Both teams had already qualified to the Top 16 before this game. James Feldeine and Nick Calathes led the winners with 14 points. Sasha Pavlovic added 12 points and 10 rebounds for Panathinaikos. Olivier Hanlan led Zalgiris with 19 points. Paulius Jankunas added 13 and 11 rebounds for the hosts. Ognjen Kuzmic and Calathes shined early to give Panathinaikos a 16-21. Hanlan rescued Zalgiris and got help from Edgaras Ulanovas and Ian Vougioukas to give the hosts a 36-34 edge at halftime. A wild midcourt shot by Mantas Kalnietis boosted Zalgiris's margin to 58-52 after 30 minutes. A three-pointer by Hanlan gave Zalgiris its last lead, 67-66. Feldeine stepped up in crunch time and a free throw by Dimitris Diamantidis gave Panathinaikos a 72-75 edge with 6 seconds left. Zalgiris found Brock Motum wide open in the left corner, but his shot hit the rim.

First quarter: Calathes, Panathinaikos strike first

Sasha Pavlovic got Panathinaikos going with a six-meter jumper and Ognjen Kuzmic added a put-back slam before Ian Vougioukas stepped up with a jump hook to get the hosts on the board. Pavlovic added to the lead with free throws. Panathinaikos excelled on defense, forcing Zalgiris to take off-balance three-point shots late in several possessions. Vougioukas fed Paulius Jankunas for a layup, but James Feldeine answered with a driving basket and soon added a three-pointer that prompted a Zalgiris timeout at 4-11. Marty Pocius shined with a driving layup, but Nick Calathes scored in penetration and Miroslav Raduljica gave the guests a 7-14 edge. After Jankunas hit his trademark triple from the top of the key, Calathes answered with a one-handed jumper in the lane. Free throws by Edgaras Ulanovas kept Zalgiris within 12-16. Raduljica sank a jump hook, but Jankunas downed a turnaround jumper and Olivier Hanlan brought the hosts within 16-18. A corner triple by Antonis Fotsis boosted the Greens' lead to 16-21 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Hanlan puts Zalgiris ahead

Hanlan took over with a wild driving layup early in the quarter, which Pavlovic matched with a two-handed slam. Panathinaikos kept powering the offensive glass - 6 in 13 minutes - but shots did not fall in now. Meanwhile, a layup by Mantas Kalnietis and a fast break basket by Hanlan forced the guests to call timeout at 22-23. A put-back layup by Vougioukas completed Zalgiris's comeback. Hanlan swished a mid-range jumper, but Pavlovic and Calathes made free throws and James Gist added a dunk before Zalgiris stopped the game at 26-28. Vougioukas downed a running hook, but Gist continued to push Panathinaikos with an alley-oop slam and Raduljica restored a 28-31 edge. After Jankunas shined with a tip-in, Raduljica, Hanlan and Nikos Pappas split free throws. A wild three-point play by Ulanovas put Zalgiris back ahead, 34-33. After a free throw by Gist tied it, a driving layup by Hanlan fixed the halftime score at 36-34.

Third quarter: Kalnietis ignites everyone

Calathes struck from downtown immediately after the break and a layup by Kuzmic gave Panathinaikos a 36-39 lead. Zalgiris found a go-to guy in Lukas Lekavicius, who buried a corner triple and added a wild driving basket that put his team back ahead, 41-39. Kuzmic scored again and soon added a tip-in to restore a 41-43 Panathinaikos margin. Pocius scored in penetration and banked in a close shot to provide another lead change, 45-43. After Pocius made free throws, Calathes beat the shot clock with an off-balance jumper. A three-pointer by Lekavicius boosted the hosts' lead to 49-45. A dunk by Jankunas soon forced Panathinaikos to call a much-needed timeout at 51-45. Calathes rescued the Greens with a bomb from downtown and a free throw by Jankovic brought his team within 51-49. Jankovic scored in penetration, but Hanlan nailed a stop-and-pop jumper and a close basket by Brock Motum gave Zalgiris a 55-51 lead. Raduljica split free throws but Kalnietis beat the third quarter buzzer with a midcourt shot that ignited the crowd at 58-52.

Fourth quarter: Panathinaikos improves its defense and wins

Both teams struggled to score early in the quarter until Diamantidis, who had been scoreless until this point, struck from downtown. Hanlan found Robertas Javtokas for an alley-oop layup but Feldeine matched it with a close basket to close the gap to 3. Fotsis downed a triple in transition, which resulted in Zalgiris calling timeout at 60-60. Feldeine took over with a fast break slam that Hanlan matched with a six-meter jumper. After Pavlovic buried a catch-and-shoot jumper, Vougioukas scored in traffic. Free throws by Diamantidis gave the Greens a 64-66 edge with over four minutes left. Hanlan took over with a big three-pointer, but Feldeine immediately answered from downtown. Jankunas scored again, but Pavlovic buried a corner triple. A free throw by Hanlan made it 70-72. Vougioukas split free throws and Feldeine drew a foul with 13.1 seconds left. He made both free throw attempts and Diamantidis hit 12 with 6.3 seconds to go. Zalgiris managed to put the ball in the hands of Motum with plenty of space to shoot from downtown, but he missed.

Εύκολα και όμορφα...

Ο Παναθηναϊκός ξεπέρασε εύκολα το εμπόδιο της Ζιέλονα Γκόρα παίρνοντας την άτυπη ρεβάνς για την ήττα στον 1ο γύρο, αλλά και το εισητήριο για το Top-16. Οι Πράσινοι παίζοντας για ακόμα μια φορά γρήγορο και θεαματικό μπάσκετ στο ΟΑΚΑ έριξαν 30άρα στους Πολωνούς επικρατώντας με 82-51. Έκαναν το 5-4 και ταξιδεύουν τελευταία αγωνιστική για το Κάουνας, σε ένα αδιάφορο ματς, αφού αμφότεροι έχουν προκριθεί. 

MVP μακράν του 2ου ο Νικ Καλάθης που αποτελεί φέτος την ατμομηχανή του Παναθηναϊκού. Χθες πραγματοποίησε μεγάλη εμφάνιση καθώς έκανε τα πάντα μέσα στο παρκέ (18 π. με 4/4 διπ - 3/4 τριπ. - 5 ρ. - 7 ασ. - 3 κλ.). Εξαιρετικός και ο Γκιστ (14 π. - 6 ρ.) που αποτελεί τον παίκτη στην άμυνα που καλύπτει τους χώρους και για τους υπόλοιπους. Θετική η παρουσία των περισσότερων παικτών, με τον Φελντέιν να είναι αρκετά άστοχος (1/8 τριπ.).

Ο Παναθηναϊκός μπήκε από την αρχή σοβαρά στο ματς και με εξαίρεση το 1ο δεκάλεπτο (26-23), "έπνιξε" τους Πολωνούς με το καταιγιστικό του up-tempo μπάσκετ. Πραγματικά αξίοζει να δείτε τα highlights καθώς οι πράσινοι έβγαλαν και ωραίες φάσεις.

Η διαφορά 14 πόντων του ημιχρόνου (47-33), μεγάλωσε ακόμα πιο πολύ στο τέλος της 3ης περιόδου (67-47) με αποτέλεσμα ο Τζόρτζεβιτς να χρησιμοποιήσει για αρκετό χρόνο στο τέλος τους νεότερους Χαραλαμπόπουλο και Παπαγιάννη.

Το μόνο που έχουμε επισημάνει ξανά από αυτό το ιστολόγιο, είναι πως ο Καλάθης λόγω έλλειψης PG αναγκάζεται και παίζει 30+ λεπτά σε κάθε ματς. Αν και δεν φαίνεται ότι έχει επιβαρυνθεί, δείχνει φρέσκος και ορεξάτος να πιέσει και στην άμυνα. Απλά το σημειώνουμε καθώς δεν πρέπει να ξεχάσουμε πως ήταν βασικός και στο Ευρωμπάσκετ, έχοντας πολύ χρόνο συμμετοχής με την Εθνική και ας ελπίζουμε και ευχηθούμε πως δε θα βγάλει κάποιο τραυματισμό όπως οι Σπανούλης, Πρίντεζης, Σλούκας κλπ παίκτες που αγωνίστηκαν με την Εθνική.

Panathinaikos steamrolls by Zielona Gora into Top 16!

Panathinaikos Athens soared into the Top 16 and avenged an earlier defeat by blasting Stelmet Zielona Gora 82-51 at home in the Greek capital on Friday. With its third consecutive victory, Panathinaikos raised its Group C record to 5-4, good for a third-place tie with Zalgiris Kaunas, its opponent in the regular season's final game next week. Panathinaikos got 18 points and 7 assists from Nick Calathes, while James Gist scored 14 points and Vladimir Jankovic 10 for the winners. Zielona Gora got 11 from Mateusz Ponitka, all of which he scored in the first quarter. Zielona Gora, which needed to win to survive, fell to 2-7 and will pass after the new year into the Eurocup Last 32. Panathinaikos broke open a close game after one quarter with a 56-24 run between the start of the second and the middle of the fourth.

First quarter: Greens surge into lead

Gist flew to the rim for a second-chance basket and Ponitka got behind the defense for a dunk to get their teams going. Then, in reverse order, they each downed three-pointers to make it 5-5. Calathes hit the next open shot from the wing for an 8-5 Panathinaikos edge. Ponitka drilled free throws that were answered with a layup by Sasha Pavlovic. Lukasz Koszarek downed free throws to keep Zielona Gora within 10-9. Calathes drove for a layup and Raduljica turned for a layup as Panathinaikos jumped ahead 14-9. Dejan Borovnjak came out of a Zielona Gora timeout and converted a three-point play for the guests. Miroslav Raduljica fed Calathes for a nice reverse that Ponitka matched with free thros at 16-14. Dimitris Diamantidis got the line for his first points, but Koszarek answered with a triple and Ponitka finished a break with a reverse for Zielona Gora's first lead, 18-19. After a Panathinaikos timeout, Jankovic drove for his first basket and a new lead for the hosts. Raduljica added to it with free throws at 22-19. Diamantidis fed Ognjen Kuzmic for a nice layup, but J.R. Reynolds drilled a fastbreak triple to keep it close. Diamantidis found Jankovic for a back-door layup before Adam Hrycaniuk hit a free throws for the visitors to end the first quarter 26-23.

Second quarter: Calathes, Gist push Greens higher

James Feldeine joined the Panathinaikos scorers from the arc for a high lead of 29-23 to open the second quarter. Koszarek answered with a smart layup, but Feldeine was back with a one-hander from the lane, to which Gist added free throws to make it 33-25. Gist then made a steal and Calathes went coast to coast for the first double-digit lead, 35-25. Out of a Zielona Gora timeout, Dee Bost fed Szewczyk for two back-door baskets, the second a reverse, to make it 35-29. Kuzmic downed a basket inside, then Calathes hit a free throw and lobbed to Gist for a beautiful alley-oop dunk. And when Diamantidis found Kuzmic for his second basket in succession, it was 42-29. A technical foul on Diamantidis led to free throw by Koszarek, but Calathes came out of a timeout and buried a triple at 45-20. Przemyslaw Zamojski answered from the corner before Diamantidis fed Fotsis underneath to give the hosts a 47-33 halftime edge.

Third quarter: Greens pour it on

Calathes picked up where he had left off, burying a triple to start the second half. Hrycaniuk responded with an inside bucket but the Greens kept pouring it on with layups by Gist and Calathes. Then Raduljica fed Gist for a dunk and Calathes hit Jankovic for a layup and a commanding 58-35 advantage. Bost's 5 points for Zielona Gora were answered by a three-pointer from Jankovic and stop-and-pop jumper by Feldeine at 64-40. J.R. Reynolds found a triple for the guests, but Panathinaikos stayed safely in front 67-47 after three quarters.

Fourth quarter: Panathinaikos slams the door

Raduljica spun for a hook shot and Antonis Fotsis fired in a triple from the corner as the Panathinaikos lead climbed to 72-47 at the start of the fourth quarter. Out of Zielona Gora timeout, Diamantidis curled for a layup and Fotsis struck again from downtown making it a 30-point advantage, 77-47. The lead was up to 81-47 before Zielona Gora finally got its first points of the final quarter - a fastbreak layup by Szewczyk - after almost 7 scoreless minutes. But by then the Greens had done their job on both ends and taken the high road into the Top 16.

Μεστή εμφάνιση πραγματοποίησε ο Ολυμπιακός στη Γαλλία επικρατώντας σχετικά άνετα της Λιμόζ με 67-76. Οι ερυθρόλευκοι δεν αντιμετώπισαν κανένα απολύτως πρόβλημα και με το γκάζι στο... ρελαντί, πήραν εύκολα τη νίκη. Το τελικό σκορ δεν αντικατοπτρίζει την εικόνα του αγώνα, αφού ο Ολυμπιακός είχε σταθερά ένα προβάδισμα 15+ πόντων που απλά απώλεσε στο τέλος όταν και "έσβησε" τις μηχανές.

Πολύ καλή εμφάνιση από τον Πρίντεζη (MVP) που "έκανε προπόνηση" εναντίον τον ψηλών της Λιζμόζ και πέτυχε στο χαλαρό 13 πόντους.

Δύσκολα θα βρεις παίκτη του Ολυμπιακού να υστέρησε, με τον Μάντζαρη όμως να ελιναι μια κλάση ποιο πάνω από τους υπόλοιπους, καθώς χθες ήταν πολύ καλός και οργανωτικά (όπως πάντα), αλλά και εκτελεστικά (12 π.).

Για ακόμα μια φορά καλός και ο Αθηναίου, που διάβασε σωστά το παιχνίδι και μοίρασε καλά στο πικ εν ρολ και για ακόμα μια φορά έβαλε τα σουτ που έπρεπε.

Το μεγάλο πρόβλημα που κλήθηκε να λύσει ο Σφαιρόπουλος ήταν η ζώνη της Λιμόζ, που θύμισε άλλες εποχές... Η απάντηση ήταν ένα μεγαλοπρεπές 45,5% στα τρίποντα (πρωτοφανές για τον Ολυμπιακό) που βρήκε ελεύθερα σουτ και τα έβαλε.

Επαγγελματική νίκη για τους ερυθρόλευκους που έκαναν εύκολα το 8-1 και εξασφάλισαν και μαθηματικά την πρωτιά στον όμιλο.

Olympiacos KO’s Limoges to clinch top spot in Group B

Olympiacos Piraeus never trailed in no-doubt-about-it 67-76 road win over CSP Limoges on Thursday night in France. The win lifted Olympiacos to 8-1 as it clinched the first place in Group B. Limoges, in its last Euroleague home game this season, dropped to 2-7. Olympiacos pulled away with a 2-11 run in the first five minutes of the game, then assumed complete control after Ioannis Athinaiou and Georgios Printezis hit back-to-back triples in the second quarter to open a 27-40 margin. Limoges closed within 44-50, but The Reds hit three consecutive triples during a 2-13 run to break the game wide open. Georgios Printezis paced the Reds with 13 points. Vangelis Mantzaris scored 12, and Ioannis Papapetrou played 16 minutes to chip in with 11 points in victory. Ali Traore and Leo Westermann each scored 14 for Limoges, and Will Daniels had 10 in the losing effort.

First quarter: The Reds off to a good start

Mantzaris opened scoring from close range, and after Westermann opened the hosts' account with a runner, Mantzaris answered with a triple. Ousmane Camara was on a receiving end of some nice passing by Limoges and made an easy layup, but Papapetrou drove for a layup to spark an Olympiacos run. Printezis scored a fastbreak layup, and Nikola Milutinov added a put-back dunk to make it 4-13 midway through the first quarter. Westermann ended an almost a three-minute long Limoges drought with a driving layup, and after a timeout, he added another one. Daniels had a monster put-back, and after a floater from Mantzaris beat the shot-clock, Daniels had a three-point play that helped the hosts come within 15-17. But Othello Hunter banked one in from close range, and Daniel Hackett split free throws to make it 15-20 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Olympiacos hits from downtown to pull away

Frejus Zerbo scored inside to start the second, and after Athinaiou nailed a corner triple, Daniels matched it with another three-point play, 20-23. But Printezis made his trademark baseline floater, and Athinaiou drove the baseline for an easy layup. Traore had a dunk, but Printezis and Hunter each scored inside extended to the lead to 22-32. Traore answered with another basket from close range, and added a pair of free throws to the tally. However, Papapetrou drove the baseline for a reverse layup before Athinaiou and Printezis knocked down back-to-back triples that opened a 27-40 margin. After a Limoges timeout, Nobel Boungo-Colo scored an easy layup, but Printezis matched it with soft touch on a tough off-balance floater. Traore buried a jumper, and in the final seconds, Strawberry drove for a layup in the crowd, but Heiko Schaffartzik had enough time to launch and hit a half-court buzzer-beater, making it 36-46 at halftime.

Third quarter: Limoges makes a run, but Olympiacos answers back

Traore made 3 of 4 from the foul line early in the third, but Printezis dished it to Milutinov for a big slam and Hackett hit a turnaround jumper that made it 39-50. Traore kept pouring it in, making a mid-range jumper, and Westermann followed with a triple that cut it to 44-50. But Mantzaris made a corner triple, before Papapetrou and Strawberry each added one of his own to help open 46-61 margin. Michalis Tsairelis made a second-chance basket, and after Schaffartzik scored for the hosts, Hunter made it 48-65 at the end of the quarter.

Fourth quarter: Olympiacos cruises to victory

Papapetrou’s corner triple broke the 20-point barrier. Traore and Tsairelis traded baskets inside, before Westermann hit a three-pointer, 53-70. But baskets were few and far between as game was closing to its end. Traore got hurt and left the game with five minutes to go, and it took teams more than two minutes to score again, as Camara banked one in high of the glass. But Hackett nailed a triple to make it 55-73, as Olympiacos was closing the deal. After Camara scored inside, Hackett hit it from downtown again, making it 57-76. Matt Gatens fought for a put-back, then delivered back-to-back triples, but it was too little too late for Limoges, which finished the game on an 11-0 run.

Καιρός ήταν...

Μετά από 9 συνεχόμενες ήττες στην Ευρωλίγκα τα τελευταία χρόνια, ο Παναθηναϊκός κατάφερε και πήρε τεράστια νίκη στο ΟΑΚΑ, κερδίζοντας την Μπαρτσελόνα με 93-86. Οι πράσινοι έχοντας τους Ραντούλιτσα, Καλάθη και Διαμαντίδη σε πολύ καλή βραδιά, έκαναν το 4-4 στη regular season και πλέον με νίκη επί της Ζιέλονα Γκόρα την επόμενη αγωνιστική στο ΟΑΚΑ έχει σίγουρα περάσει στο Top-16.

Το ματς είχε καταιγιστικό ρυθμό από το ξεκίνημα. Ο Παναθηναϊκός εξαργύρωσε το πολύ καλό ξεκίνημά του και κυρίως το καλό δεύτερο δεκάλεπτο. Οι πράσινοι στο μεγαλύτερο μέρος του παιχνιδιού κυκλοφόρησαν εξαιρετικά τη μπάλα και πέτυχαν ωραία καλάθια παίζοντας γρήγορο μπάσκετ. Πλήγωσε τη Μπάρτσα με το παιχνίδι της. Από τους κορυφαίους και βασικός συντελεστής της νίκης ο αρχηγός 3D, που είχε καιρό να κάνει καλό παιχνίδι. Έβαλε κρίσιμα καλάθια, κέρδισε 8 φάουλ είχε 12/14 βολές.

Ακόμα πιο σημαντική και βοήθεια από τον Καλάθης, ο οποίος αγωνίστηκε 34' και ήταν πέρα από οργανωτικά εξαιρετικός (10 ασ.) και ο 1ος ριμπάουντερ της ομάδας (7 ρ.), πετυχαίνοντας και 9 πόντους. Λατρεύουμε τις εξαιρετικές σκαστές ασίστ του Νικ, μια εξ αυτών προσέφερε ένα εντυπωσιακό highlight με ανάποδο κάρφωμα από τον Πάβλοβιτς.

Ρεκόρ πόντων καριέρας και από τον Ραντούλτσα (25 π.) με εξαιρετικά ποσοστά (8/9 διπ. - 9/9 βολές). Μακράν από τους καλύτερους σέντερ σε ευστοχία βολών. Ο Σέρβος έχει ένα μοναδικό χάρισμα... Έχει απίστευτη επαφή με το καλάθι και μπορεί να σκοράρει με κάθε τρόπο. Δεν κατάφερε να τον σταματήσει ουδείς από τους ψηλούς της Μπαρτσελόνα.

Η Μπαρτσελόνα έδειξε σαστισμένη, ή έτσι την έκανε τουλάχιστον να μοιάζει ο Παναθηναϊκός και αυτή ήταν και η επιτυχία του Τζόρτζεβιτς, που την κέρδισε με γρήγορο μπάσκετ. Η ομάδα δείχνει να βρίσκει ταυτότητα στο παιχνίδι της και να βελτιώνεται από ματς σε ματς. Παίζει καλύτερα, έχει πλουραλισμό (σήμερα δεν τράβηξαν Φώτσης ή Φελντέιν, αλλά έκανε χρήση των υπόλοιπων "όπλων"), έχει πάθος, τρέχει, πιέζει.

Τα ποσοστά του Παναθηναϊκού ήταν εξαιρετικά. Και δε χρησιμοποίησε το μεγάλο όπλο του (τρίποντο) αλλά πλήγωσε τους Καταλανούς μέσα στη ρακέτα. Stats don't lie, μς 25 ασίστ -8 λάθη.

Diamantidis, Raduljica lead Panathinaikos past Barcelona.

In a battle of Turkish Airlines Euroleague giants, Panathinaikos Athens took a critical step towards to the Top 16 by downing FC Barcelona Lassa 93-86 in the Greek capital on Friday. Panathinaikos improved to 4-4 in Group C and broke its nine-game losing streak against already-qualified Barcelona, which dropped to 6-2. Miroslav Raduljica led the winners with a Euroleague career-high 25 points on 8-of-9 two-point shooting and 9-of-9 free throws. Dimitris Diamantidis had a season-high 20 points, James Gist added 10 while Nick Calathes dished 10 assists for Panathinaikos. Alex Abrines led Barcelona with a career-high 21 points. Stratos Perperoglou added 13 while Ante Tomic had 11 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Raduljica shined early and a layup by Gist gave the Greens a 13-10 lead. Tomic and Abrines stepped up for Barcelona to put the guests ahead, 21-22, after 10 minutes. Raduljica remained unstoppable throughout the second quarter. Panathinaikos kept excelling on defense and a floater by Vladimir Jankovic made it a double-digit game, 45-35, at halftime. A three-pointer by Diamantidis made it a 16-point game, late in the third quarter. An outstanding Perperoglou brought Barcelona as close as 82-78 with two minutes left but a critical three-pointer by James Feldeine and free throws by Raduljica and Gist sealed the outcome down the stretch.

First quarter: Abrines puts Barceona ahead

Juan Carlos Navarro got Barcelona going with a driving layup, as the guests held Panathinaikos scoreless for more than two minutes. Calathes stepped up with a mid-range jumper, which Ante Tomic erased with a layup. Ognjen Kuzmic shined with a put-back basket and a jump hook by Raduljica gave the Greens their first lead, 6-4. Tomas Satoransky made free throws and erased Raduljica's one-handed jumper with a layup for an 8-8 tie. After Calathes split free throws, Abrines shined with a fast break slam. Raduljica hit foul shots and a layup by James Gist gave Panathinaikos a 13-10 lead. Satoransky fed Tomic for a backdoor layup, which Abrines followed with a corner triple to put Barcelona back ahead. Nikos Pappas nailed a turnaround jumper, but Tomic dunked. A three-point play by Raduljica put the Greens back ahead, 18-17. Carlos Arroyo buried a big triple and Abrines made free throws, but Diamantidis and Vladimir Jankovic brought Panathinaikos within 21-22 after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Greens surge ahead

Both teams struggled to score early in the quarter until Diamantidis made free throws. Antonis Fotsis soon added a reverse layup for a 25-22 Panathinaikos lead. Arroyo took over with a driving layup, which Raduljica matched with a close basket. Fotsis struck from downtown to boost the hosts' lead to 30-24. Barcelona could not find the way to the basket until Sasha Vezenkov stepped up with a corner three-pointer. Panathinaikos kept running its offense through Raduljica, who followed a layup with a six-meter jumper, which caused Barcelona to stop the game at 34-27. Pau Ribas hit a technical free throw and Perperoglou buried a triple to bring Barcelona within 3. Gist ignited the crowd with a one-handed slam, which James Feldeine followed with free throws to extend the Greens' margin to 7. Diamantidis, Justin Doellman and Pappas all made free throws. Then Shane Lawal took over with a tip-in and a floater by Jankovic fixed the halftime score at 45-35.

Third quarter: Barcelona tries, Panathinaikos keeps lead

Gist shined with a dunk right after the break and Calathes added a fast break layup, wfter which Barcelona called timeout at 49-35. Doellman swished a mid-range jumper, which Gist erased with a one-handed slam. Tomic split free throws and a reverse dunk by Sasha Pavlovic brought the crowd to its feet at 53-37. After Arroyo made free throws, Raduljica scored again and a three-pointer by Abrines gave Barcelona hope at 55-42. Abrines and Samardo Samuels combined for 6 free throws to bring the guests within single digits, 56-48. Diamantidis hit foul shots, but Abrines shined with a driving layup. A three-pointer by Pavlovic gave Panathinaikos some fresh air at 61-50. Pavlovic made free throws and a catch-and-shoot triple by Diamantidis made it a 16-point game. Satoransky provided a highlight with a fast break dunk and Abrines followed free throws with a buzzer-beating three-pointer that carried Barcelona within 66-57 through three quarters.

Fourth quarter: Diamantidis wins it for Greens

Perperoglou, now playing power forward, struck from downtown early in the quarter, but Calathes quickly answered with a corner triple for a 69-60 lead. Shane Lawal followed an alley-oop dunk with a tip-in that saw Panathinaikos call timeout at 69-64. Raduljica hit free throws and Perperoglou buried one from way beyond the arc to bring the guests as close as 71-67. Brad Oleson joined the three-point shootout. Raduljica and Perperoglou traded foul shots and a layup by Diamantidis restored a 75-72 Panathinaikos lead. Raduljica shined with a backdoor slam, Perperoglou scored down low and an eight-meter bomb by Diamantidis boosted the hosts' lead to 80-74. Diamantidis and Tomic traded free throws and Doellman kept Barcelona within 82-78 with under 2 minutes left. Feldeine and Navarro exchanged three-pointers, but free throws by Raduljica and Gist sealed the outcome, 89-81, already in the final minute.

Με ανεβασμένους τους νεοφερμένους

Ο λαβωμένος Ολυμπιακός κατάφερε και ξεπέρασε το εμπόδιο της επίσης λαβωμένης Αρμάνι Μιλάνο στο Σ.Ε.Φ. με 73-63. Αν και στο 1ο ημίχρονο ήταν επιθετικά κακός (σκορ ημιχρόνου 25-29) έκανε καλό 2ο ημίχρονο (48-34) και έκαμψε σχετικά εύκολα την αντίσταση των Ιταλών του Ρέπεσα, που είχε ετοιμάσει όπλα (άμυνα ζώνης) να αντιμετωπίσει τους ερυθρόλευκους.

Οι νεοαποκτηθείς όμως Στρόμπερι - Χάκετ - Μιλουτίνοφ και Αθηναίου, έκαναν εξαιρετικό παιχνίδι και χάρη σε αυτούς, καθώς αυτούς εμπιστεύτηκε ο Σφαιρόπουλος στο τέλος αφού έδειχναν σε καλή βραδιά, ο Ολυμπιακός πήρε τη νίκη με 73-63.

Ο Χάκετ πήρε τη μπαγκέτα οργανωτικά αλλά και εκτελστικά, αφού πήρε τα drives όταν έπρεπε και ήταν αποτελεσματικός. Με σύστημα τον έβγαζε η ομάδα να ποστάρει (κυρίως στο 2ο ημίχρονο) τον αντίπαλο PG.

Ο Στρόμπερι ήταν καταλυτικός αφού και αυτός ήταν από τους λίγους που δεν "κώλωνε" να πάει στο drive. Πολύτιμη η συνσισφορά του και στα ριμπάουντ (9 ρ. - 3 επιθετικά). Προσέφερε και το highlight της βραδιάς με κλέψιμο από τη weak side και coast to coasto που κατέληξε σε κάρφωμα.

Ο Μιλουτίνοφ στο 5 ήταν αρκετά ποιοτικός μπασκετικά και προσέφερε και πόντους (11) βοηθώντας και στην κυκλοφορία της μπάλας.

Για ακόμα μια φορά ο Γιάννης Αθηναίου δείχνει ότι μπορεί να σταθεί στο επίπεδο αυτό. Έβαλε δύο κρίσιμα τρίποντα (once again) που βοήθησαν την ομάδα να ξεκολλήσει στο σκορ σε κρίσιμο σημείο). Και ήταν αυτός που μπόρεσε να σπάσει το ασφυκτικά πιεστικό double team στα hedge out, στα πικ εν ρολ του Ολυμπιακού και να μοιράσει σωστά τη μπάλα.

Αρνητικοί οι Μάντζαρης, που υπέπεσε σε λάθη σημαντικά και δε βοήθησε και στο σκοράρισμα. Δεν μπόρεσε απόψε να ηγηθεί. Χαμηλές πτήσεις και από Αγραβάνη και Παπαπέτρου.

Ο Χάντερ φάνηκε αρκετά νευρικός και δεν πήγε καλά. Κακές επιλογές στην επίθεση, του έφευγε συνεχώς η μπάλα από τα χέρια, αργές περιστροφές στα πικ εν ρολ, ήταν αρνητικός.

Δυστυχώς αποχώρησε και πάλι με τράβηγμα στο αριστερό τετρακέφαλο ο Λοτζέσκι στο 2ο ημίχρονο, που μόλις είχε επιστρέψει από άλλο τραυματισμό.

Reds roll to fifth straight win by beating Milan

Already-qualified Group B leader Olympiacos Piraeus extended its winning streak to five games by pulling away in the fourth quarter for 73-63 win over visiting EA7 Emporio Armani Milan on Thursday night at Peace & Friendship Stadium in Piraeus. After a game in which the hosts missed Vassilis Spanoulis, and Milan played without Alessandro Gentile, the Reds improved to 7-1 and have a two-win cushion atop Group B, while Milan dropped to 2-6 in a share of fifth place. Olympiacos’s victory also put Anadolu Efes Istanbul through to the Top 16, while Milan needs to win by a double-digit margin next week against Cedevita in Zagreb to keep alive its Top 16 chances. D.J Strawberry scored 9 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter and also pulled down 9 rebounds to lead Olympiacos. Nikola Milutinov added 12 points and Georgios Printezis 11, while Daniel Hackett had 9 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists in victory. Andrea Cinciarini and Charles Jenkins each had 12 points and 4 assists for the visitors. Jamel McLean collected 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Krunoslav Simon netted 9 points and dished 6 assists in defeat.

First quarter: Defensive battle at the start

Stanko Barac hit a jumper for Milan, and Milutinov scored inside for the Reds. However, those were the only baskets in the first four minutes of the game until Cinciarini hit a corner triple to make it 2-5. Jenkins added a three-pointer in transition, to make it 2-8 and force an Olympiacos timeout. But Hackett went coast-to-coast, Strawberry got to the hoop, and Milutinov added a monster dunk to tie the game at 8-8. Cinciarini ended Milan's three-minute drought with a driving layup, and a second-chance triple by Jenkins opened an 8-13 advantage. As the defenses dominated, Printezis made his trademark baseline floater, then knocked down a triple to beat the buzzer at the end of the quarter for a 14-13 advantage after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: Triples help Milan to halftime lead

Printezis also scored inside on the opening possession of the quarter, but that turned out to be the only basket for another three minutes, until McLean made a tough turnaround baseline jumper. Jenkins buried a jumper, and after Simon made a corner triple, Jenkins knocked down a triple to make it 16-24. Matt Lojeski ended a span of more than seven minutes without Olympiacos basket and snapped a 0-11 run. But McLean finished inside, and after Milutinov threw down a big dunk, Cinciarini nailed a three to open a 21-29 advantage. In the final 80 seconds of the half, Lojeski hit a runner and Hackett free throws made it 25-29 at the break.

Third quarter: Milan hits more threes, but hosts stay close

The scoring picked up a notch as Lafayette hit a corner triple, and after Printezis scored inside for the Reds, Lafayette and Ioannis Athinaiou traded triples to make it 31-35. Simon dished for an easy layup by Barac, but Mantzaris and Milutinov scored from close range, before Mantzaris battled inside for a layup-plus foul, giving the hosts a 41-37 edge. Simon snapped a 10-0 run with a driving layup. Milutinov scored inside again, but McLean scored in a crowd to keep Milan in sight, 43-41. Othello Hunter had a put-back, but McLean fought his way for a basket-plus-foul and as Olympiacos lost Lojeski to an injured hamstring, McLean nailed a mid-range jumper and Robbie Hummel finished a fast break to give the visitors a 45-48 lead. However, Strawberry knocked down a triple to make it 48-48 after three quarters.

Fourth quarter: The Reds pull away

Hackett put Olympiacos in front with a driving layup, and Athinaiou beat the shot-clock with a triple to make it 54-49. Simon hit a turnaround jumper for the visitors, but Printezis and Strawberry each scored 2 free throws, then Strawberry made a steal and raced for a dunk and a 60-51 lead. After a Milan timeout, a long floater by Athinaiou extended the difference to 11 points before Simon’s foul shots snapped a 13-2 run. However, the Reds grabbed a couple offensive rebounds to keep Milan from gaining any momentum. Hummel knocked down a long jumper, but Printezis assisted Strawberry, who maintained the hosts’ double-digit lead. Barac hit a baseline jumper, but Strawberry iced it with a triple at 69-57 with 1:37 left in the game. Before the end, Hunter extended the lead to 14 points with a put-back. Hummel nailed three-pointer and Cinciarini drove for a layup to round out the score.
