Και 2η ήττα - ρελάνς στο ΟΑΚΑ

Ήττα και στο 2ο ματς στη σειρά με τη Λαμποράλ ο Παναθηναϊκός. Αυτή τη φορά η ομάδα του Τζόρτζεβιτς φάνηκε πιο διαβασμένη, κυνηγούσε στο σκορ τους Βάσκους σε όλο το ματς που δε σου έδιναν την αίσθηση της υπεροχής, και με έναν υπέροχο Διαμαντίδη (φαίνεται η διαφορά κλάσης του από τους υπόλοιπους) καταφέρνει με μοναδικό τρίποντο στα 8,7" να ισοφαρίσει σε 73-73 και να στείλει το ματς στην παράταση. Εκεί ο Παναθηναϊκός προδόθηκε από τις κακές επιλογές στην επίθεση και την ολιγωρία στην άμυνα και τελικά ηττήθηκε με 82-78.

Σε μεγάλη βραδιά ο τεράστιος αυτό παίκτης που ονομάζεται Δημήτρης Διαμαντίδης (PIR-26). Ήταν ο ηγέτης της ομάδας, διαχειρίστηκε άψογα την ομάδα από τη θέση 1 και σκόραρε έπρεπε για να κρατήσει τον Παναθηναϊκό ζωντανό στο ματς. Όσο βρισκόταν στο παρκέ, υπήρχε σταθερότητα στην ομάδα. Όσο απουσίαζε η ομάδα έδειχνε αδυναμίες.

Μαζί του σε καλή βραδιά ο πάντα σταθερός Γκιστ και η έκπληξη που ακούει στο όνομα Κούσμιτς. Αν και πολλές φορές δείχνει εκνευριστικά άτεχνος, χθες έβγαλε εις πέρας το ρόλο που του ανατέθηκε με απόλυτη επιτυχία, καθώς βοήθησε και στο σκοράρισμα με 11 π. (στα ριμπάουντ είναι δεδομένη η συνεισφορά του). Πήγε καλά και στο μαρκάρισμα του Μπουρούση μιας και ο Ραντούλιτσα έδειχνε αρκετά εκνευρισμένος. Ο Σάλε εστίασε πολύ στην άμυνα πάνω στον Έλληνα σέντερ, βάζοντας πάνω του το Ραντούλιτσα. Ο Σέρβος όμως φάνηκε να έχει το μυαλό του πολύ περισσότερο στο μαρκάρισμα αυτό παρά στο παιχνίδι, με αποτέλεσμα να χάσει την ψυχραιμία του, κάτι που τον αποπροσανατόλισε και στην επίθεση (10 π. με 4/10 FG). Έτσι η θετική παρουσία του Κούσμιτς έγινε ακόμα πιο αισθητή.

Θετική η παρουσία του Χέινς, που τιμά τα λίγα λεπτά που παίρνει στο παιχνίδι και δείχνει ότι τελικά έχει και το σουτ.

Ο Γουίλιαμς φάνηκε και αυτός αγχωμένος και μαγκωμένος. Σαν να νιώθει το βάρος της ευθύνης και να μην το αντέχει. Είχε κακές επιλογές στην επίθεση. Πέτυχε βέβαια 5 καθοριστικούς πόντους στο τέλος της κανονικής διάρκειας που βοήθησαν τους πράσινους να στείλουν το ματς στην παράταση.

Απογοητευτικός ο Καλάθης σε άμυνα και επίθεση. Έχασε το ρόλο του μέσα στην ομάδα, έχανε τον παίχτη του στην άμυνα (πόσες φορές είδαμε τα αντίπαλα γκαρντ και τον Τζέιμς να κόβουν κάθετα και να φτάνουν εύκολα στο λέι απ ή στο κάρφωμα!) έφαγε κρίσιμα ατομικά τρίποντα από τον Άνταμς, δε βοήθησε στο σκοράρισμα, έχασε τα τρίποντα (0/4).

Ούτε και ο Δομινικανός (Φελντείν) βοήθησε ιδιαίτερα στο σκοράρισμα, που τον χρειάζεται η ομάδα σε τέτοια ματς. Φάνηκε η απειρία του στα μεγάλα ματς.

Το μαύρο πρόβατο... Σάσα Πάβλοβιτς. Ο άνθρωπος ξέρει μπάσκετ, δε λέω, αλλά δεν έχει δέσει με την ομάδα και όταν μπήκε στο 4ο δεκάλεπτο, χάλασε το ρυθμό του Παναθηναϊκού και έτσι έδωσε την ευκαιρία στους Βάσκους να ανοίξουν τη διαφορά. Η επιμονή του Τζόρτζεβιτς να τον χρησιμοποιεί, έχει εκτοπίσει στον πάγκο τον Γιάνκοβιτς που δεν αγωνίστηκε χθες ενώ έχει περισσότερη πείρα σε τέτοια ματς και θα μπορούσε να βοηθήσει περισσότερο την ομάδα.

Γενικά ο Παναθηναϊκός έπαιζε καλύτερα και ήταν απειλητικός με την πιο έμπειρη 5άδα του - Διαμαντίδη, Καλάθη, Γουίλιαμς, Γκιστ, Ραντούλιτσα, αλλά για ακόμη μια φορά ήταν αργός στην άμυνα και δεν μπορούσε να αντιμετωπίσει τα υπερηχητικά γκαρντ της Λαμποράλ και τον Μπουρούση, που φάνηκε η εμπειρία του σε μεγάλα ματς.

Η Λαμποράλ είναι καλή ομάδα αναμφισβήτητα, αλλά δεν είναι και τίποτα το ξεχωριστό και ανίκητο. Ο Παναθηναϊκός αν απέφευγε σημαντικά λάθη στο παιχνίδι του (15) και κυκλοφορούσε πιο σωστά την μπάλα σε ορισμένες επιθέσεις, την είχε ακόμα και στη Βιτόρια. Είναι στο χέρι του να βελτιωθεί και να πάρει τα επόμενα 2 ματς στο "καυτό" όπως προβλέπεται ΟΑΚΑ και να διεκδικήσει την πρόκριση στο Ffinal 4. Παρότι η Λαμποράλ βγήκε 2η, κατά την προσωπική μου άποψη ήταν η καλύτερη για ζευγάρωμα από τον όμιλο της φωτιάς για τους πράσινους και πρέπει να το εκμεταλλευτούν.

Laboral Kutxa outlasts Panathinaikos in overtime

In a thrilling playoff clash that came down to the final seconds – twice! – Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz edged Panathinaikos Athens 82-78 after overtime in Game 2 of their Turkish Airlines Euroleague Playoffs series at Fernando Buesa Arena on Friday night. Laboral now leads the best-of-five affair 2-0, but the action moves to the Greek capital next week for Game 3 – and, if necessary, Game 4. Labaoral was missing several key players – including ace defender Adam Hanga who was hurt in Game 1, and Coach Velimir Perasovic mostly stuck to a six-man rotation. Nevertheless, Laboral led by 2 at halftime and extended its advantage to 10 early in the fourth quarter. Panathinaikos fought back and tied it on a late three-pointer by Dimitris Diamantidis to eventually send the game to overtime. Ioannis Bourousis put Laboral in front, but it wasn’t decided until Miroslav Raduljica missed a shot in the paint with 10 seconds left and Darius Adams iced the game from the line for the hosts. Adams made 5 of 11 shots from behind the arc and finished with 24 points to lead the winners. Bertans made 4 of 7 threes to score 15, Bourousis added 14 points and 9 rebounds, Mike James totaled 13 and 9 and Kim Tillie added 10 points. Diamantidis led the Greens with 17 points and 6 assists, Elliot Williams scored 12, Ognjen Kuzmic 11 and Raduljica 10. James posted 10 rebounds and blocked 2 shots as Panathinaikos outrebounded Laboral 39-51.

First quarter: Kuzmic starts, ends Greens’ 0-9 run

The Greens displayed great passing early and Raduljica found a cutting Sasha Pavlovic for a slam. Adams picked up where he left off in Game 1 with a three-pointer, but Raduljica stepped up with a hook shot and free throws, with a Williams layup in between. Gist showed the Greens’ confidence with a rejection of Bourousis. The hosts tied it through as second Adams triple and Tillie free throws. Nick Calathes’s floater put Panathinaikos up 8-10, but Tillie finished a layup-plus-foul to tie it again. Tillie rose high to reject Williams, however the ball bounced to Marquez Haynes who scored for the visitors. After the TV timeout, Bertans drained a catch-and-shoot triple. Panathinaikos led again after Kuzmic’s three-point play off a pick-and-roll with Diamantidis. The point guard added a jumper and then Haynes fed Raduljica on the pick-and-roll to make it 13-19. Kuzmic capped a 0-9 run by putting back his own miss. James drained a triple to end the quarter at 16-21.

Second quarter: James’s big buckets give Laboral the lead

The difference was down to 3 after Tillie scored a minute into the quarter. Then Bertans came off a screen and buried a triple to tie it at 21-21. After Pavlovic split free throws, James’s dunk gave the host their first lead, 23-22. James Feldeine countered with a jumper and then drilled a triple as Panathinaikos regained control. Jaka Blazic’s wild jumper and foul kept Laboral close before Gist scored inside. After a jumper by Ilimane Diop, Tillie recorded another block and Adams tied things at 29-29 midway through the quarter. Haynes countered with a three-pointer, but James took a steal in for a slam. Williams scored with a put-back, but Bourousis netted a hook for his first points. Adams split free throws to even things, but it did not last long as Raduljica scored inside on the next play. However a Bourousis slam made it 36-36 and James’s jumper gave Laboral a 2-point edge at halftime.

Third quarter: After falling behind by 9, Greens trim the gap

Bertans hit his third three-pointer at the start of the second half. Diamantidis sliced into the Laboral defense for a layup before back-to-back threes by Adams and Bourousis gave the home team a comfortable 47-38 cushion. Diamantidis took charge with a pull-up three, but essentially gave it back by fouling Bertans on a long three-point attempt and the forward made the resulting 3 shots. Raduljica swished a jumper from the foul line to make it 50-43 midway through the quarter. Diamantidis went behind the back to set up Gist for a slam. The forward missed a chance to further trim the deficit when he missed 2 free throws. But free throws by Diamantidis made it a 3-point game. Adams and Diamantidis matched foul shots. Blazic also sank free throws, but Antonis Fotsis’s tip in brought Panathinaikos within 54-51 in the closing seconds of the quarter.

Fourth quarter: Diamantidis saves the Greens

Bertans knocked down his fourth three-pointer and Tillie grabbed an offensive rebound and fed James for a slam. The difference was double figure after Bourousis rejected Williams to ignite a fast break that James finished with a layup. Gist scored for the Greens, but a foul and then a technical for arguing by Pavlovic made the arena sing even louder. However Kuzmic’s hook and a Diamantidis three silenced the crowd at 62-58 with six minutes to go. Diop fouled out, but Tillie scored to keep Laboral in control. Raduljica was called for flopping and Bourousis made the resulting free throw. Kuzmic dunked in transition to make it 65-60 with three minutes to play, but an Adams three gave the hosts an 8-point advantage. Williams revived the Greens with a three, but Tillie made a wild layup to keep Laboral in charge. Williams kept Panathinaikos in the hunt with a drive to get within 70-65 with 80 seconds remaining. Kuzmic free throws got the visitors within 3 with 44 seconds on the clock, but Adams blew the lid off the arena with a pull-up three with 30 seconds left, but after a timeout, Haynes answered in suit and Panathinaikos forced an 8-second turnover to get the ball back with 13 seconds remaining. Diamantidis buried a triple off one leg with 8 seconds left to even the score at 73-73. James was stopped on his way to the hoop and the game went to an extra session.

Overtime: Bourousis, Adams lift the home team

Bourousis sank a hook to put Laboral back in front. He then drew Kuzmic’s fifth foul and split free throws. Calathes rescued the Greens with a reverse layup, but Bourousis tacked on 2 more free throws. After a bizarre Panathinaikos turnover – Diamantidis lost the ball when he collided into Williams, Adams dunked on the break for a 5-point advantage. Williams split free throws to make it 80-76 with just over a minute to go. The Greens’ defense rose to the occasion again and Williams fast break slam made it a 2-point game with 48 seconds on the clock. After stopping Bourousis, Raduljica missed from close range with 10 seconds left and Adams sank 2 free throws to ice the game with 5.1 seconds left.

Χάρη στην ηγετική τριπλέτα των Διαμαντίδη - Καλάθη - Γκιστ, ο Παναθηναϊκός κέρδισε στο χαλαρό την Τσεντεβίτα με 76-60 στο ΟΑΚΑ, σε μια βραδιά που ο Δημήτρης Διαμαντίδης τιμήθηκε από την Ευρωλίγκα ως ένας "θρύλος" της διοργάνωσης. 

Οι πράσινοι μπήκαν αποφασισμένοι στο παιχνίδι και κάνοντας ένα δυναμικό 1ο δεκάλεπτο (20-5) δείχνοντας πόσο πολύ θέλουν το ματς και την πρόκριση στα playoff. Το 42-19 του ημιχρόνου επέφερε χαλάρωση στους πράσινους και ταυτόχρονα το δικαίωμα στους Κροάτες να ρίξουν τη διαφορά σε μονοψήφιο αριθμό (58-49 στο 35΄). Αλλά εκεί μίλησε η εμπειρία του Παναθηναϊκού που ήξερε πως να διαχειριστεί το παιχνίδι και έτσι η νίκη ληρθε εύκολα για το τελικό 76-60.

Panathinaikos reaches playoffs on festive night

On a night when three-time champion Dimitris Diamantidis was officially named a Euroleague Basketball Legend, Panathinaikos Athens celebrated by clinching a place in the Turkish Airlines Euroleague Playoffs for a sixth consecutive season by downing Cedevita Zagreb 76-60 on a festive Friday night in the Greek capital. Panathinaikos learned that it had qualified for the playoffs early in the second quarter, when Anadolu Efes Istanbul lost against Fenerbahce Istanbul. By that time, however, Panathinaikos was already up by 15 points against Cedevita, a lead it never relinquished. The Greens opened the game with 20-5 run that ballooned to 42-19 at halftime. The hosts were up by 29 points in the third quarter before Cedevita put together a 5-25 run to make things little more interesting. But the Panathinaikos lead was never threatened. The victory improved its Group E record to 9-4, which means that Panathinaikos cannot finish worse than third place. It can still clinch second place and home-court advantage in the playoffs with a win next week against already-eliminated Efes, but only if Lokomotiv Kuban Krasnodar loses at Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul. James Gist paced Panathinaikos with 15 points plus 9 rebounds and Diamantidis had 10 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists on his special night. Sasha Pavlovic added 9 points, and Nick Calathes did a little bit of everything with 5 points, 6 rebounds, 6 steals, 3 steals and 2 blocked shots in victory. For Cedevita, Marko Arapovic collected 11 points plus 8 rebounds, while Toni Katic had 9 points in the absence of Nemanja Gordic.

First quarter: Panathinaikos takes control right away

It took teams more than 2 minutes before Ognjen Kuzmic scored the game's first points for Panathinaikos on free throws. The Greens continued with Calathes and Elliot Williams hooking up for an alley-oop dunk before Sasha Pavlovic's put-back on a fastbreak made it 6-0. After a Cedevita timeout, James White opened the visitors' account, but the hosts played tenacious defense, forcing 6 turnovers in the first 5 minutes. Gist and Pavlovic each scored from close range for a 10-2 lead before a Calathes runner meant a double-digit margin within 6 minutes. Karlo Zganec scored a second-chance layup for Cedevita, but Diamantidis dished for a Miroslav Raduljica dunk to spark an 8-0 run during which Antonis Fotsis drove for a layup and James Feldeine went coast-to-coast for a thundering dunk and a 20-5 scoreboard after 10 minutes.

Second quarter: The Greens dominate

Zganec and White opened the second quarter by scoring inside. However, after a Panathinaikos timeout, MarQuez Haynes buried a three-pointer and a baseline jumper to push the lead to 26-9. Miro Bilan made a put-back for Cedevita, and after a pair of foul shots from Diamantidis, Fran Pilepic got a lucky bounce on a jumper to cut the difference to 28-13. Vince Hunter finished an easy dunk for the Greens that Dzanan Musa matched with a dribble-drive layup before Pavlovic nailed a triple to make it 34-15. Arapovic answered with a pair of baskets inside, but Panathinaikos proceeded to score the last 8 points of the quarter. Gist nailed a corner triple, Feldeine made a steal and went the other way for a fastbreak dunk, before Gist beat the halftime buzzer with another three-pointer, making it 42-19 at the break.

Third quarter: Margin reaches 29 points

Kuzmic had a put-back before Luka Babic drove the lane and then added a runner for Cedevita. Calathes hit a triple to make it 47-23, then made a steal and fed Williams for a fastbreak dunk. His next dish was for an alley-oop dunk to Pavlovic at 51-23. After a timeout, Gist scored inside, before White snapped a 9-1 Panathinaikos run with a layup. Katic hit a long jumper for the visitors and Pilepic got another favorable bounce on a three-point attempt, making it 55-32. Diamantidis fed Hunter for a layup before Arapovic had a three-point play and Katic made a runner at 58-37 after three quarters.

Fourth quarter: Cedevita cuts it to single digits

Luka Zoric made a baseline move to open the final quarter, before Katic nailed a jumper then drove for a layup that cut the margin to 58-43. After a Panathinaikos timeout, Cedevita made four defensive stands, and a fastbreak layup from Arapovic cut the difference more before Pilepic's transition triple capped a 5-25 run with the visitors now within 58-49. The hosts snapped their drought with Gist fighting inside for a put-back-plus-foul. Zoric scored inside, but only in between threes from Panathinaikos veterans Antonis Fotsis and Diamantidis, who upped the difference to 67-53. Zoric scored twice more for the visitors, but Gist kept the margin in double figures from the foul line. Fittingly, Diamantidis hit another three-pointer, and soon after was taken out of the game, getting a standing ovation from the fans. Musa scored a layup, but Fotsis nailed another three to round out the scoring on a playoff-clinching night for the Greens.

Βαριά ήττα, βαρύ το κλίμα...

Τόσο «καυτή πατάτα» δεν είχε κρατήσει ποτέ ο Ολυμπιακός τα τελευταία χρόνια. Να πρέπει κάθε φορά, κάθε εβδομάδα, κάθε 40λεπτο να παίζει την ύπαρξή του. Ήταν και είναι όμως δικό του… κατόρθωμα. Να πάει μέχρι εκεί, να χάσει και εύκολα παιχνίδια και να ‘χει το κεφάλι του τοποθετημένο στην καρμανιόλα.

Αυτό είναι το αληθινό πρόβλημα της ομάδας του Πειραιά για τη φετινή Ευρωλίγκα και κανένα άλλο. Όταν η Μπάμπεργκ δυο φορές σε «σκοτώνει» και η Ζαλγκίρις σου ρίχνει 20αρα, θα ‘ρθει η ώρα που θα υποχρεωθείς να ακούς τους συναγερμούς ακόμη και στον ύπνο σου! Αυτό έπαθε ο Ολυμπιακός και έτσι έφτασε σε σημείο να μη βάζει στις αποσκευές του την παραμικρή δικαιολογία.

Αφήστε που μιλάμε και για ανθρώπους, που καμιά φορά χτυπάνε και… στον ύπνο τους (μη γελάτε, μόνο αυτό δεν έχει γίνει). Η αναμέτρηση με την Χίμκι, είχε και ένα άλλο ξεχωριστό στοιχείο. Οι Ρώσοι μόνο αδιάφοροι δεν ήταν. Έπαιζαν και αυτοί την τύχη τους, έπαιζαν το δικό τους «αύριο», ήξεραν ότι τουλάχιστον στο δικό τους σπίτι θα μπορούσαν να ρίξουν τη ζαριά. Και κατά το «φέρε μια ζαριά καλή και για μένα ρε ζωή», ο Ντούσκο Ιβάνοβιτς με το φοβερό μαλλί του πρόσμενε από την ομάδα του να παιδέψει τους Πειραιώτες, με περισσότερη διάρκεια και συνέπεια απ’ ότι στο ΣΕΦ! Αφήστε δε, που όχι απλά «παιδεύτηκαν» οι Πειραιώτες, αλλά εκτελέστηκαν δίχως οίκτο από τους αντιπάλους τους. Στο παιχνίδι του ΣΕΦ, τρεις φορές πήρε διαφορά η Χίμκι, αλλά ο Ολυμπιακός την υπερκάλυψε. Στη Μόσχα όμως, γνώριζαν άπαντες πως θα ήταν όλα διαφορετικά!

Τούτη τη φορά, τα πάντα ξεκίνησαν καλά σε θέμα ρυθμού και λαθών, αλλά ήταν κατάμαυρα στα ριμπάουντ. Έχαναν τη μια μπάλα μετά την άλλη. Και όταν ανανεώνουν τις προσπάθειες ομάδες, που ‘χουν σουτέρ, θα σου κάνουν και ζημιά. Όταν τους δίνεις την ευκαιρία, θα σε βλάψουν. Το πρώτο λάθος ο Ολυμπιακός, το έκανε στο 11’ , αλλά δεν υπήρχε πάρει τίποτε από αυτό. Η Χίμκι στην έδρα της είναι κορυφαία στο τοπ 16 σε σκοράρισμα και ασίστ. Και σε αυτούς τους τομείς, είχαν ρίξει βάρος οι παίκτες του Σφαιρόπουλου. Όσο όμως άλλαζαν στην άμυνα, τα μις ματς έβλαπταν και τα ριμπάουντ «πονούσαν». Ο Ολυμπιακός πήγε να αντιδράσει και από ένα σημείο και μετά άρχισε να τρώει… πέναλτι. Γιατί όταν επιμένεις στο hedge out απέναντι σε μια πυροβολαρχία, κάποια στιγμή θα υποφέρεις. Κάποια στιγμή θα δεχθείς σουτ ελεύθερα! Ακόμη κι από… συνήθεια έκλειναν μέσα στη ρακέτα. Ακόμη κι αν δεν έπρεπε.

Μεγάλο πράγμα η καθημερινότητα. Εξάλλου το κάνει πολλά χρόνια ο Ολυμπιακός και μια καλή ομάδα ή πιο σωστά κάποιοι σούπερ εκτελεστές όπως ο Σβέντ, μπορούν να το διαβάσουν. Και αυτό συνέβη… Δέχεσαι επιμέρους 17- 2 και με τον Σπανούλη στον πάγκο, αν δεχθούμε ότι ο αρχηγός της ομάδας είναι ο πιο… σοφτ ανασταλτικά. Η Χίμκι βρήκε ρυθμό, γυρνώντας δαιμονισμένα τη μπάλα. Έπρεπε να παίξει άμυνα «δυο εναντίον δυο» στα πικ ‘ν ρολ, δεν το έκανε. Έπρεπε να «δέσει» ανασταλτικά δίχως βοήθειες για να μη φάει τρίποντα. Δεν το έκανε. Βγάζοντας τον Χάντερ ψηλά, μπήκαν τρία τρίποντα. Καλύτερα ο κοντός και χωρίς βοήθεια κι αν μπει μέσα ο Σβέντ. Ξεκίνησε με hedge out ως το 8 λεπτό. Στη συνέχεια το γύρισε σε συνεχείς αλλαγές. Τρώει τα σουτ, ξανακάνει hedge out και μετά πάλι αλλαγές. Ρίσκαρε η ομάδα του Πειραιά και πήγε στα αποδυτήρια με 9/18 τρίποντα και 10/21 δίποντα στην καμπούρα της!

Η μόνη ελπίδα για τον Ολυμπιακό, με όλα αυτά που είχε πάθει, ήταν να βγει η κλασική κόπωση των Ρώσων. Μια ομάδα που είναι απροπόνητη από τον Κουρτινάιτις και ο Ιβάνοβιτς την έχει βάλει σε άλλο καλούπι. Πάντα «σκάνε» στα δεύτερα ημίχρονα και αυτό ήλπιζαν οι «ερυθρόλευκοι», που είχαν δεχθεί όλα τα πέναλτι. Μα όλα τα πέναλτι… Στο εκτελεστικό απόσπασμα από μια Χίμκι που γύρναγε τη μπάλα πανεύκολα. Και όταν η συγκεκριμένη ομάδα έχει ελεύθερα σουτ, ο αντίπαλος καλείται να κάνει την προσευχή του, με ελάχιστες πιθανότητες να βοηθήσει κάποιος άγιος η καλός Θεούλης, που στην τελική έχει σοβαρότερα πράγματα για να ασχοληθεί, από ένα παιχνίδι μπάσκετ! Α ξέχασα: Και η μεγαλύτερη ελπίδα μετά το 54- 36; Ότι απλά ήταν ο… Ολυμπιακός. Που μπορεί να ανατρέψει κάθε κατάσταση. Στο 26’ είδαμε την ελληνική πεντάδα, τον Πρίντεζη σέντερ και ο Μόνια έβαλε τρίποντο εκτός λογικής για το 62- 44. Όμως η ψυχολογία ήταν… ρωσική. Κοντό σχήμα λοιπόν, η επόμενη επιλογή του Σφαιρόπουλου.

Ο Ολυμπιακός όμως αντιδρούσε μόνιμα λάθος. Παράδειγμα, το μπάσιμο του Κόπονεν με τον Πρίντεζη να τον πιέζει, ο Παπανικολάου έκλεισε άσκοπα στη βοήθεια, πάσα στον Χάνεϊκατ, τρίποντο από τη γωνία και 67-47. Η διαφορά εκτινάχθηκε και χωρίς τον Σβέντ. Οι Ρώσοι εκτελεστές, έκαναν κυριολεκτικά ό,τι γούσταραν. Τα υπόλοιπα δεν έχουν σημασία. Η εμφάνιση της ομάδας ήταν άσχημη στα όρια της τραγικής για «τελικό των τελικών» όπως σωστά χαρακτήρισε το ματς ο Γιάννης Σφαιρόπουλος. Και στους 27 πόντους διαφορά, είδαμε και ζώνη από την ομάδα! Στο ΣΕΦ η ομάδα όρθωσε το ανάστημα, το πάλεψε, κράτησε τις ελπίδες της, είχε και δίπλα τον κόσμο. Όμως κάθε φορά που ταξίδεψε μακριά από τον Πειραιά(με εξαίρεση τη Βιτόρια) είχαμε ολοκληρωτική παράδοση. Και ήττες με διάφορους τρόπους, αλλά με μια μόνιμη «σφραγίδα»: Εγκατάλειψη… Υπάρχουν πάρα πολλά να πεις, αλλά όταν μια ομάδα είναι πεσμένη και μετά από τέτοια ήττα, οφείλεις να δείξεις σεβασμό στην ιστορία της! Και δίχως να ‘χω όρεξη να δικαιολογήσω κανέναν(σαλάτα τα ‘καναν φέτος), θέλω να πω ότι ο Ολυμπιακός στην Ευρωλίγκα έχει γράψει ιστορία(κυρίως την τελευταία εξαετία) και κανείς δε δικαιούται να τον αντιμετωπίσει σα μια ομάδα της πλάκας. Το φετινό 1- 6 μακριά από το λιμάνι, το πλήρωσε πανάκριβα… Πιο ακριβά απ’ όσο στοίχιζε το περσινό ρόστερ που κατά το ήμισυ διαλύθηκε.

Khimki torches Olympiacos in pivotal game

Khimki Moscow Region played a near-perfect game on Thursday to rout Olympiacos Piraeus 98-66 in an important game with playoff implications. Petteri Koponen came off the bench to make 5 of 7 three-pointers for 21 points in 17 minutes, Alexey Shved also drilled 5 threes and scored 19 and James Augustine posted 18 points and 10 rebounds for Khimki, which improved to 7-6 and increased its playoff chances. Olympiacos fell to 6-7 and is no longer in control of its own destiny. Olympiacos held a 2-point advantage in the second quarter before Shved connected on 4 threes in a 17-2 run and the Reds never recovered. The difference was 12 at halftime, reached the 20s in the third quarter and peaked at 36 in the fourth. Tyler Honeycutt added 8 points and 8 rebounds for Khimki. Othello Hunter scored 14 for Olympiacos.

First quarter: Koponen shoots hosts in front

Khimki went inside to Augustine and Olympiacos to Hunter for the game’s first baskets. Shved’s triple and Tyrese Rice’s layup through the Reds’ defense gave the hosts a 7-2 start. Hunter dunked again before Vangelis Mantzaris tied it with a triple. Shved’s baseline drive soon had Khimki back in front. Kostas Papaniklaou evened things with a steal and layup, however Augustine found himself open outside and buried a jumper to make it 11-9. After the TV timeout, Sergey Monia nailed a foul-line jumper. Papanikolaou scored an easy layup on an inbounds play, however Zoran Dragic connected from downtown. Georgios Printezis scored on the offensive glass to keep the Reds close. Koponen and Printezis traded threes before Hunter made it a 1-point game with a fast break layup. Josh Boone took control on the offensive glass to keep Khimki on top until Spanoulis tied it with a three from the top of the key. Printezis split free throws to give Olympiacos its first lead, but Koponen matched him and then nailed a triple in the dying second of the quarter for a 25-22 edge.

Second quarter: Shved heats up and fuels Khimki run

Daniel Hackett buried an open three to tie it on the first play of the quarter. Boone and Hakim Warrick traded jumpers. After Boone scored inside, Warrick drew a foul at the other end and split free throws. Ioannis Papapetrou took charge with a block at one end and a basket-plus-foul on the other for a 29-31 Olympiacos lead. However back-to-back threes by Shved put the home team back in control. After an Olympiacos timeout, Warrick put in his own miss, but Shved connected on another three to make it 38-33 midway through the quarter. Honeycutt added a triple of his own from the corner and Augustine’s put-back plus-foul made it a double-digit advantage. Shevd drilled his fifth three of the night to cap a 17-2 charge. Papanikolaou ended the Olympiacos drought with a free throw with two minutes left in the corner, but Shved found a cutting Augustine for a layup. Papanikolaou turned a rejection into a layup in the final seconds of the half to get within 48-36.

Third quarter: Augustine, Honeycutt push the difference to the 20s

Dragic drove, drew a defender and dished to Augustine for an easy layup to open the second half scoring. Hunter missed a dunk and Augustine scored twice more for an 18-point lead, at which point Olympiacos called timeout. A Mantzaris-to-Hunter alley-oop slam and free throws by Mantzaris and Spanoulis revived the Reds. However Augustine threw in a hook over Hunter and Koponen connected on a triple. After a tip-in from hunter, Monia made it 62-44 with a three. Mantzaris drove for a basket-plus-foul, but an Egor Vyaltsev jumper and Honeycutt triple prompted an Olympiacos timeout at 67-47. Koponen picked off Spanoulis’s pass and took it for a layup. Despite Printezis’s free throws, the momentum remained with Khimki. Boone scored inside, Honeycutt nailed a jumper and Koponen ended the quarter with a step-back jumper that made it 76-50.

Fourth quarter: Koponen ices the game with a pair of triples

Koponen made his fourth three-pointer at the start of the quarter. After Warrick sank 2 free throws, Koponen made another triple to establish a 30-point advantage. Hackett hit a jumper and continued to play hard on defense, but Khimki had shifted into cruise control. The lead only swelled on a basket by Monia and three-point play by Dragic. Hunter and Rice traded free throws and Hunter added another basket on the offensive glass. Shved made free throws to establish the biggest lead of the game at 94-58. Shved played hard till the end with a block in the final minute as Khimki strolled to a historic victory.
